re: Two sides to the story: Mumbai cop tows car with breastfeeding mother still inside

There is a different video of what happened before the towing. The traffic police is telling them about the illegal parking and that they will tow it. Till that time, the child is in the father's arms. The minute they get ready to start towing it, the lady sits with the child in the car and the good Samaritan starts recording and cajoling the cop etc. At some point he tells the cop if the child dies due to the towing, who will be responsible. I mean, really? A child dying due to breast feeding by an adamant mother, that's a new.

I don't absolve the cop of the insensitive behaviour, but the lady is no saint either. She tried to play the vulnerable mama with infant card to squeeze out of a fine for something which was illegal. And media houses look at only one side and start forming conclusions.

Edit: This video is in the post above.

This is typical way of playing the victim card and blaming the cops for each and everything. She definitely altered the story in the fit of rage with the cop. I have read somewhere that the cop in question is suspended and detailed inquiry is underway. If the inquiry result proved that the lady is wrong, a heavy fine and a case should be registered against her for endangering the life of the kid and also stopping a government servant from doing his duty.

If this would have happened in US, they wouldn't have towed the car immediately. They would patiently request the person to step out of the car. If they are not obliging, they will arrest them for sure. I have seen a case like this where a lady has been arrested for not stepping out of the car and arguing with the cops. They have asked her to step out as she was tested positive for DUI.

In this type of case, the husband also would have been slapped with a case for endangering the life of the infant. The child would have been also handed over to a child care until the case is resolved.

Given that the lady wasn't even in the driver's seat; being unwell, breast-feeding or any other reason really isn't an excuse for parking in a no-parking.

Unfortunately, she's played the victim card well, and the amount of publicity this has gotten means the policeman has born the brunt of it. Hopefully his suspension is just a temporary measure until this dies down.

(Full disclosure: I watched the videos with the sound off)

This could have easily been spun the other way by news outlets:

Senior citizen dies in ambulance - due to traffic jam caused by illegally parked car.

This is rather insensible on that lady's part. The couple's decision to park the car in a no parking zone, and their criminal intent of playing the victim card rather well cost somebody else - who was just trying to enforce the law. This episode, and similar episodes in the past involving another woman and an Uber driver, really disgusts me. And thanks to our media, these cases get so much attention as they are TRP magnets, they get blown to epic proportions.

So no penalty for the acting couple, who misused their own child to gain sympathy?

Nowadays the social media is abuzz with conflicting perspectives of the same event, gets very hard to find out the actual root of the whole thing. This particular episode or the one where a cop was found to be drunk inside a Delhi metro coach and criticized all over the net only to find out later that he was suffering from some health condition etc. kept the feeds flowing with side-changing empathies. Few of these have been comically summarized by Zakir Khan (a well-known stand-up comedian, if anyone is not aware) in a youtube video:
