Re: Acid attack on cars parked at Vasant Kunj, Delhi

We are stooping to such low levels to commit such unheard crimes that propagate our mad, deranged and saddistic mental demeanour.

Such persons need to be mercilessly flogged publicly. Our laws are very weak to penalise the criminal committing such crimes and perpetrators either escape from the clutches of law, get mild sentences or get bail and soon the public forgets all about it.

Re: Acid attack on cars parked at Vasant Kunj, Delhi

The Supreme Court had banned free acid sale in 2013. Despite such a ban news reports say acids are freely available over the counter and there is no such feel of any ban anywhere.

https://www.hindustantimes.com/india...MChlrp7ML.html

Quote:
A five-litre bottle of hydrochloric acid can be bought for as low as Rs 100 in some places.

The 2013 order by Supreme Court also instructed governments to issue acid-sale licences to select retailers. Any outlet authorised to sell the volatile liquid was mandated to ask buyers for address proof and a photo identity card, so they can be traced in case of an untoward incident. Minors were barred from purchasing acid.
The situation is quite alarming !

Somehow, ceramic coating guys will flourish a lot for sometime near the area of incident.

I believe ceramic coating can repel this attack, can it?

Time to keep those dashboard cameras active even for a parked vehicle and install one at the rear too.

This is some concentrated hydrochloric acid which you get illegally in those local kirana/grocery shops. It will eat through the paint till the base metal is exposed. No coating can protect that.

I feel for the owners. :( Hopefully the culprits are caught and put behind bars. What a terrible sight!

Delhi seems to be mellowing down. Instead of shooting each other, folks are settling disputes by pouring acid on each other's cars, as more and more lives are being saved. Delhi is becoming safer.
Oops, not sure if one's own car was victim would we be

Have a pair installed.
Even so, except for a damning record, the damage and consequences would have to be endured

Re: Acid attack on cars parked at Vasant Kunj, Delhi

Doesnt need HCL or H2So4 (pure or diluted) to do this extent of damage.

Even your harmless DOT3 or DOT4 can penetrate to deep till steel surface past lacquer, PU paint and Primer! Brake fluid is the best (&Medically worst) coagulant (blood clotting agent) known to the road side mechanics, it "really" penetrates like crazy!

Brake fluid is the best known (READ : cheap) paint remover known to "DIY" guys. Next comes easily available "paint remover" cans available on internet.

Conflicts like these are quite common in my city and colony, and I've personally been witness to ego wars breaking out over parking spots and blocked passageways, many times. It takes a lot of patience to defuse such situations, and to accommodate another person's needs and requirements. The Residents' Welfare Association usually plays an active role in allotting & demarcating the parking slots, but most of these colonies don't even have space enough for 1 car per apartment. In such situations, people with multiple cars are the targets of those with just one, who are unable to park at a designated spot.

In my pocket, thankfully, there is no such conflict, and we have come to an amicable solution amongst the various apartments' owners and tenants - and then we also have some spare space at the end of the lane as well as on the street in front. The RWA president and members are pretty active in demarcating parking slots, and we haven't had such incidents of vandalism in the last 25 years that I've lived here.

So, sorry to disappoint you, but not all folks in Delhi are hot-headed and trigger-happy, and it isn't difficult to avoid situations like these - and therefore, neither does luck play a major part in avoiding such conflicts, nor would one (or one's car) be victim of someone else's ire as a matter of chance.

Oh my god! This is absolutely horrible and never ever seen something like this done to a car. Culprits must be brought to book. Heart wrenching to see your loved machine in such a plight. Till now i had only heard about cars being stolen from South Delhi and this a new low. Take Care Brother!

I doubt if the culprits can even get caught. Forget about public execution, I have never seen a concrete action taken against the acid attacks on humans, these were still cars.

Re: Acid attack on cars parked at Vasant Kunj, Delhi

Rather than acid or brake fluid this seems to be the result of using a paint stripper.

Though brake fluid is considered to be a DIY paint stripper, it is not as effective enought to yield similar results as seen in the pictures, reason for saying so is because I've tried to strip levers using brake fluid and the outcome wasn't as I'd expected it to be, the fluid simply weakens the paint and you need to put some muscle to peel it off.

Acid is simply more corrosive, and I doubt it would simply stop with the paint.

Re: Acid attack on cars parked at Vasant Kunj, Delhi

This is horrible incident where multiple car owners have suffered for madness of one individual. I have been a victim of "Parking Rage" once in Navi Mumbai where an individual scratched all doors on my car with a key. Insurance covered the cost of repair but I had to forgo no claim bonus.

It will be difficult for these suffering owners to get over this incident even if insurance covers the cost of repair let alone the fact that they would have no other option but to part at this spot again.

Car owners must come together to safeguard them against such actions but appointing a paid person to watch over this spot at night.

I wonder what concoction the saint used to baptise these cars. HCl/H2SO4 solution, perhaps. I do feel for the unfortunate souls who own these. Insurance may cover it but the hassle & horror of discovering this act, one can imagine.

Re: Acid attack on cars parked at Vasant Kunj, Delhi

What a horrible horrible incident. Really sad to see this.

The thing is, it's not just Delhi or any particular part of the country. I see rage everywhere on the street. India is famous for road rage. People drive like maniacs and if some damage happens because of that, they behave as if it was your fault. Then this bikers who would go to any extreme just to move an inch forward in a long traffic snarl. A few days back one biker hit by rear bumper intentionally while I was standstill in traffic. While asked he said I had a one foot gap with the car in front so I could've moved forward. As if it was his right to scratch any car if he is not getting free passage. And this is not the first time I've seen this and sadly will not be the last.
