That is brilliant. I would not be prepared to try it! <Blush> With a lip all around, though, I'd give it a try.

I think that, when manoeuvring between two fixed objects, one should not be shy of touching front and back. One should certainly be able to drive gently enough to be completely sure of no mark or damage to self or other.

I would be rather interested to see how he got it parked there. And what was that keeping two of those bottles there about. Just left it after empty is it. I thought that was some marker that he was keeping.

Lots of places in Kerala have this parking on the Storm water drains. Of course most use Altos or 800s here.

Wow - this guy is no less than a wizard! The act on the other hand - I'll still rate as reckless and unnecessary even under distress conditions. The rear wheel is literally on the edge of the platform for some moments. That's exceptionally good judgement.

And I wonder why one would make a platform like that...

If one can make the platform at all, why not give oneself an extra foot or two! Bravado? Show-off? Or something simpler like... made for a smaller car when a big one was not on the cards.

If I had to do that stuff, I'd bolt a strip of steel, sticking up all around by about three inches. That would still allow the body of the car to extend into space, whilst providing positive travel limit, and protection against all but the heaviest foot. It would be easier, safer... but much less ego value

The news got featured in MM News today.
https://www.manoramanews.com/news/sp...al-driver.html(In Malayalam)

In short:
  • He is a professional driver, used to drive private buses.
  • Parked his friend's car overnight before giving for service. Normally parks his smaller car there.
  • Those were unopened water bottles, kept out before giving car to service, asked wife to take it away.
  • The place is near Mahe, Kerala

That slab is built to access the plot (that is vacant now).

Re: Fortuner: Insane parking!

Looking at these videos, I can remember two occasions in my life where I had to wriggle out in a similar fashion.

1. Went to a movie theater(Cine town, Hyderabad) where the in house parking is in an open field. The parking attendant makes sure each car is park at max a foot behind the car in front, in a single row. After the movie is over, you have to wait for the car in front to move out before you start. On a rather hot summer afternoon, the person for the car in front of me didn't turn up while the drivers in the cars behind kept waiting. Finally I decided, used up the a feet of space in front and back to do multi -point turns and was on my way in my WagonR. The driver in the car behind gave me a huge smile and a thumbs up.

2. Last Saturday, we went on an outstation trip and I had parked my car below the shoulder of the road at a view point. When I return, I see an Etios taxi parked close behind and a brand new Gi10 (with L plate) parked perpendicular to my car, right in front. As such, it was an open area with a lot of space to park the cars and yet, they preferred to stick together.

Asked around but the drivers were nowhere to be found. Took 7-8 point turn to wriggle my way out.

In both the occasions, there wasn't any risk apart from bumping the neighboring car (which I didn't), unlike a huge drain in case of the Innova! That said, I wouldn't want to take the risk or hassle of parking at such a place on a daily basis.

Oh my God !!! This is simply awesome and way more mind-boggling than the video of how he took it out of that spot I think he is a former Volvo bus driver. Exceptional skills, enjoyed both the viral videos !!

Last time for me was leaving from a wedding when we had been among the first to arrive.

Of course, I did not consider what the then-empty roadside stretch would look like by mid evening when the reception crowds arrived. We did get help from people shifting a few bikes, and one vehicle reversing to give us any access at all to main road, but there was still an awful lot of fore and aft and lots of funny angles to get around.

Whilst there is some pride in the success, I'll try not to make the same mistake again!

Here is the man's interview after the video went viral. He himself didn't know that a video was being shot!

Innova Parking video creates sensation

For the past few days, social channels have been abuzz with a video of Innova being parked and later taken out of a tight spot, essentially a slab between two iron barricades over a canal.

The video initially went viral on Facebook and now the driver has to say this -
"This is unbelievable. I have been getting so many calls from news reporters and public as well for the last two days. There is nothing big in what I have done. Any good driver can do this".

Sharing it here as an appreciation of skills and also for aspirants here who wish to master parking manouvres.

re: Innova's crazy parking video becomes internet sensation!

Actually when you see the video, he makes it look very simple!. And that too he did not have anyone standing there and guiding him either.

If I am searching for a parking space and see this little slab, a bell will not even ring in my head that this is a parking spot . I will just drive past.
