Re: Tamil Nadu: Hotels must provide amenities for the drivers of its guests Just adding a few tidbits as food for thought as this discussion proceeds further:
1) This regulation would be a big hit with government officials. They often take their official vehicles (with driver) outstation, and might have faced trouble getting accommodation for the drivers. Unlike most corporate folks who self drive, govt officals often do not like operating their official vehicles on their own.
2) Considering that most premium hotels and resorts already had such facilities, and the fact that they have strong lobbying power, this move could have been pushed forward by the premium hoteliers themselves, to reduce the cost advantage that Oyo/Bloom/SaltStayz and other low cost hotels are providing by removing all the additional frills of Business Center/Conference Rooms/Large lobbies and even car parking for that matter!
3) Hotel Owners Associations/ Lobby groups are fairly strong, even for the small hotel owners, and they must have been consulted at some point. I also believe that all this notification does is to ensure that the number of beds in the staff dormitory is equal to the number of parking lots. I don't think it bans non-drivers from using the beds when they are unoccupied.
Looking forward to reading more from the others. |
