FYI, KA-nn-G-xxxx is reserved for Govt vehicles (excluding KaSRTC and its subsidiaries). The twisted humour is, it's registered to the Police dept. So is KA-09-G-420.
More humour: KA-17-G-420 is with the Medical Dept, Davangere, KA-18-G-420 and KA-19-G-420 belong to the Forest Dept. So many 'chaar sau bees' in key departments :D

Saw this New York State vanity plate on a Mumbai car last night. Not sure if it's an actual plate or novelty. Pretty sure this is illegal though the actual number is just below it.

Playing the devil's advocate here. The rules state that there shouldn't be any markings or stickers on the number plate. This car's number plate itself has been shifted to the bumper, so how can it be illegal? The way the number is written on the bumper *may* be an issue because: a) the MH-xxxx portion is written in two lines and the nnnn portion is in a single line in a bigger size, b) it is not written on a separate metal plate, instead it's a simple sticker job, and c) it isn't illuminated
I usually associate such weird number plate placements and fancy fonts to "kewl dudes" and "ricers", probably this one also isn't an exception.

There is a rule that says the number plate must be illuminated. That certainly has been violated in this case.
Plus there is the prominence argument. The Transport Commissioner might take the view that due to the secondary plate, the Indian plate is not prominent enough and deem the setup illegal.

No idea about the movie but his plate reads KA 8 AL 1.
Ideally, it should read KA 08 AL 0001.

Seems like its only an enthusiastic fan's interpretation. RTO site doesn't have any info for a 'KA 08 AL 0001'.
