I just closed my 2 PayTM Fastags(for 2 cars) and it is showing the status as 'closure initiated'.
I have travel plans in a week so I needed a new Fastag before I leave.
Do I wait for a confirmation that the Fastags have been closed before I apply for a new one or can I go ahead rightaway so that I receive it soon and maybe activate the new one after I receive a confirmation of closure?
I plan on buying from HDFC bank where I have an account, and I believe they send it in 4-5 days.

If you need to travel within a week, consider applying for a new one before your existing one is closed.

You can go ahead and purchase a new one directly; there's no need to wait for confirmation from Paytm. The new one will get activated. I would suggest getting a new Fasttag from outlets for instant activation.
My car currently has PayTM Fastag which I plan to cancel soon. The problem is, I have a monthly pass on my local toll which I use on a regular basis (they issue this pass to regular users within 20km radius of the toll plaza). Once I switch to another Fastag provider, will this monthly pass get affected? Anyone has experience on the same? TIA

In hindsight, closing the fastag while the PayTM wallet was still active seems to be the prudent step.
The 150 balance was successfully credited to the PayTM wallet, but the 250 security deposit shows as a failed transaction. Will need to follow up for the same.
In my case was able to transfer the remaining PayTM wallet balance to my bank account seamlessly as KYT was in place.
However folks whose PayTM wallet is not KYC compliant are unable to transfer the remaining balance to their bank account.
Just received my HDFC fastag today and have installed the same on the vehicle. Had to do an e-KYC and a video KYC before they shipped the same. Wonder why just the traditional e-KYC (Aadhar based) is not sufficient to avail the fastag.
I was trying to setup an auto-topup so that whenever the fastag balance falls below a set amount, it gets auto topped up from the bank, haven't found this feature yet for the HDFC fastag. |

Any update from Paytm on the 250Rs security refund? |
After a month of closing PayTm FasTag and innumerable follow ups, refund finally happened.
Initially I made a ticket through FastTag helpline and they asked me to iput bank details like ID+IFSC code on the ticket. However that didnt work. Then I noticed that PayTm have disabled their FastTag helpline number where the prompt doesnt go beyond language selection. We could only update the active ticket under help.
Finally a week back they seem to credit the 250rs on wallet. I then withdrew the balance on my Bank account by entering the details.

Our i20 had Paytm Fastag and we too have a Monthly Pass at a Toll Plaza.
I changed the Fastag to Airtel at a Stall at a different Toll Plaza. I visited the Toll Plaza where I had Local Monthly Pass and told them about Fastag Change. They updated in their system and issued me Local Monthly Pass in March. Now I can renew the Pass online at
www.ihmcl.co.in.
Dear BHPians,
During the closure phase of the PayTM wallet, I had done Rs.5000 recharge and its fasttags are running without hiccups. Now that the wallet balance nearing Zero, I need to switch to tags on both of my cars.
I believe most of you have switched to newer tags from various providers, requesting suggestions for my scenario based on your usage experience.
Need: 2 Fasttags.
Preferred: To have a single wallet balance linked with Both fasttags. This would avoid linking Fasttags to directly the Bank account balance.
Existing bank accounts: Only Axis Bank
Other UPI apps I use: PayTM, and Google Pay.
Would Amazon Pay, PayTM-HDFC fasttags make sense in my situation?
Thank you for your suggestions!

Amazon pay currently supports only 1 vehicle. If you need 2 fastags, you need 2 Amazon accounts, hence won’t be common balance.
Normal HDFC fastag supports common balance but not sure of Paytm-HDFC.

This worked like a charm, thanks @raptor_diwan!
I was struggling to close the two PayTM Fastags that I had. The chat support option for "Fastag closure" on PayTM app kept saying "technical error" all the time. Then I sent an email to above id. After some back and forth, I got the security deposit refunded in PayTM wallet!! Later, used the chat support option to initiate closure of PayTM wallet itself, which triggered the refund into my bank account. Finally, uninstalled the app. Goodbye PayTM, you served well.

TLDR: I was in the same situation a month ago. I switched to IDFC First (which has "pool account") for both of our cars and quite happy with it. And, you wouldn't need IDFC First bank account to buy fastag.
Longer version:
My requirements were (1) common wallet (2) clean/intuitive mobile app experience and (3) auto recharge facility.
Based on suggestions in this forum, I narrowed my choices to Airtel and IDFC First. Initially I leaned towards Airtel as I already had the app installed anyway. But I could see many complaints around poor customer care with Airtel. So went with IDFC First. Ordered two fastags through the "FirstForward" mobile app, which got delivered within a week. The pool account feature worked seamlessly during recent trip.
Caveats:- IDFC First does support "auto recharge" but only using IDFC First credit card (which I do not have). Guess I missed the fine print :Frustrati. Since the other aspects of IDFC First are good, I plan to continue using it with manual recharge.
- If buying online, subscription to "Max" program is mandatory which costs Rs.300, but no security deposit. This is applicable to the first fastag only. Second fastag didn't have Max subscription but had security deposit. (I did see posts where BHPians mentioned they contacted customer care to unsubscribe from Max program and got the refund. I didn't try this though)
Overall cost:
1) First tag:
Rs.550 (100 tag cost + 300 Max program cost + 150 tag balance)
2) Second tag:
Rs.300 (100 tag cost + 200 security deposit)
Hello
New rules have been announced for FastTag, of which some relate to buyers of new cars.
I bought a new car 2 months ago, and the Maruti dealer affixed a FastTag from IDBI bank. The dealer assured me that I didn't need to do anything more, but the new rules are confusing.
These are the new rules relating to recently purchased cars.
1. New Vehicle Registration Update: New vehicle owners must update their FASTag with the vehicle’s registration number within 90 days of purchase.
2. Photo Upload Requirement: Providers must upload clear images of the vehicle’s front and side for better identification.
3.Mobile Number Linking: Each FASTag must be linked to a mobile number for effective communication and updates.
Can someone please explain whether I need to do anything, and/or if there is some way I can check that my FastTag is fully compliant and I need not do anything more?
Thanks !!
Closed the PayTM fastag once the remaining wallet balance was used up for tolls, a couple of days ago. Now waiting for the closure completion from PayTM end and refund of the security deposit.
Parallelly, applied for IDFC first tag after seeing the many positive reviews of the same.

I have 2 Fastags from PayTM. Both are showing as closed.
One car is sold and the new owner has put a Kotak Mahindra Tag.
Other Car is with me.
Since both are showing as closed, is there anything I need to do?
