Re: What is the longest that you have used Cruise Control in India?

I drove on cruise control for around 100 km on the Samruddhi Expressway. But I realized that it reduces the driving pleasure quotient. I will prefer to go on cruise control only for short empty stretches and not on long highway drives. Driving is more about being connected with the vehicle and staying involved.

For 30 seconds in 3 years. I wonder who can use cruise control on Kerala roads if one is driving mostly during daylight.

These are my personal experiences, I'd love to hear from the rest of you.
I have somewhat similar views on Hyrid and CVT. Invicto has Hybrid and e-CVT, which gave poor mileage (16 kmpl) on Agra-Lucknow Expressway, when I set cruise control at 110-119. Without Cruise, i have got mileage of 19-20 on similar highways and speed.

Re: What is the longest that you have used Cruise Control in India?

I once had an accident that on introspection realised that I could have possibly avoided if I had not been on cruise control. Reason being if CC was off, you would either be accelerating or decelerating, making you stay in better control of the car as opposed to driving with cruise control where the car continues to accelerate and stay on set speed.

I felt my reaction time to avoid the accident was not "sufficient" since the car was moving on its own.

Otherwise I try to switch on CC whenever possible and I do enjoy the feature. I think I will see the usage go even more up with more and more expressways opening up.

Re: What is the longest that you have used Cruise Control in India?

Not sure how to interpret the question but I’m assuming by longest it means what % of an overall single trip time?

I KA01-KL01 round trips and I have used quite a but on this stretch, 40% at least on this stretch which would mean about 3-4 hrs of overall cruising in a single trip. Distance wise this would be well over 300km on a single trip.

If it means only continuous use, its probably not more than 5-10 minutes. There is something or the other that will like come needing us to slow down. But in my honest opinion this really isn’t the way to look at using cruise control. The advantage cruise control gives is the ability to relax your foot on long empty stretches, so even those 5 mins really help. Even if you have to break the cruise you can always press “Res” or Resume to get back to the preset cruise speed. So it is just a tap of your left leg, manage the situation and resume cruise.

But I have found cruise control to consumer more fuel, roughly 2 kmpl more. So these days I’m only using them when I know my drive is going to be really long, so I take advantage of cruising to just relax my legs. If the overall drive itself isn’t more that 4-5hrs, I don’t bother using them.

Still, it is a feature that I consider must need for me.

Re: What is the longest that you have used Cruise Control in India?

From Cruise Control in India - Useful or Useless? to this thread, we've certainly come a long way. I've been using cruise control since 2009, and even in the city, locking the speed with CC, and allowing the car to automatically accelerate by punching the Resume button once slowing down is required, is a lot less stressful than keeping an eye on the speedometer to avoid a speeding fine.

Never checked how long I've used it continuously without disengaging - I do tend to light up my brake lamps intentionally (Communication while driving | "Talk" to other road users | Why? And how to do it?) as required, which obviously disengages CC. It isn't about how long one can use CC continuously, but safely.

The only time I've actually driven relaxed in Kerala was a Trivandrum Kochi trip where I reached Kollam in peak traffic, got fed up and decided to amble around the rest of the way by not exceeding 50 kmph (this is the closest to cruise control in the southern part).

You can use it between Thrissur and Walayar in stretches. I use it there mostly so that I don't get a speeding ticket.

Re: What is the longest that you have used Cruise Control in India?

Roughly for 60-70% of the distance I use cruise control. Though not used continuously (one cannot in our roads), whenever there is an opportunity I use cruise control even if it is less than a km or for a minute or two also. The result - less fatigue and good fuel efficiency. Once you start mastering the cruise control buttons, it becomes very easy to manipulate the speed according to the traffic and gear. In my car, the instantaneous mileage displayed during using cruise control varies from 18kmpl to 40kmpl and it provides a very satisfactory driving experience. The overall mileage I get is 19-20kmpl by tank to tank method.

Re: What is the longest that you have used Cruise Control in India?

I have used cruise control on my Harrier for about 14kms on Nice Road. And my speed was 75kmph, although I was varing speed +/- 10kmph.
Again on Ring road for 3kms. I also feel this feature is not for Indian roads, and using cruise control for short distance doesn't make any difference.

Re: What is the longest that you have used Cruise Control in India?

In the last 6 month of my Nexon DCA ownership, I have used cruise control for about 6 Hours when traveling between Mysore and Bangalore on express way. I have also noticed significant improvement in mileage figures when using cruise control

Modding the Highway Companion: Cruise Control on My Grand i10 Nios Sportz AMT (2022)

Hello fellow BHPians,

I recently retrofitted cruise control to my Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Sportz AMT (2022), and I must say—this simple modification has completely transformed my driving experience, especially on highways and long-distance commutes. I’m sharing my experience here in the hope that it may be helpful to other AMT owners considering this practical upgrade.
What is the longest that you have used Cruise Control in India?-img_1148.jpg

Why Cruise Control on an AMT Makes So Much Sense
Most of us know that cruise control has traditionally been reserved for higher variants or more premium models, but in today’s mod-friendly aftermarket ecosystem, enabling such features is not only feasible but also remarkably effective—particularly on automatic transmissions like the AMT.

Having driven both manual and automatic transmissions, the difference in cruise control behavior is night and day. In a manual car, pressing the clutch to change gears immediately cancels cruise control—an inherent limitation. But with the AMT, things are much smoother:

Once you hit 30 km/h or above, just press the ‘SET’ button and relax.

The system maintains the selected speed while automatically shifting gears as needed. No interruptions, no clutch—just seamless cruising.

You can increment or decrement the cruising speed with a single tap on the respective buttons, allowing for fine control without disengaging the system.

Need to overtake? Just press the accelerator to surge ahead, and the system will resume the preset speed once you let go.

Key Benefits I've Observed So Far:
✅ Reduced Fatigue on Long Drives: No more constant pedal inputs on long stretches.

✅ Better Fuel Efficiency: Maintaining a consistent speed without unnecessary throttle modulation has slightly improved my mileage.

✅ Enhanced Driving Comfort: Especially helpful in those long, straight highway sections.

✅ OEM-like Integration: The setup feels stock—clean, functional, and intuitive.

Final Thoughts
For anyone owning a Grand i10 Nios AMT and doing regular highway runs, this is one modification I wholeheartedly recommend. It adds genuine functionality and elevates the overall driving experience without affecting reliability or warranty (assuming proper installation).

Drive safe,
Cheers!

Hi Neongoblin, that's a good yet functional mod you have got. It would be great if you can share the installation steps and parts required as it will help several thousands of owners. I'm aware that any accessories shop does it for the Cretas, sonet, venue, seltos and carens.

Hey, i have this exact same car and would absolutely love to get this done. Can you share where did you get this done?

I’m assuming the setup is from post facelift i10 nios?

Mysore - Bangalore drive is an hour and half. The question is about 'the longest you've used without braking', I guess. Abroad I have used it continuously for 6-8 hours at a stretch.

But in India, outside Bangalore, hardly 30 minutes
Something or other keeps coming in front. Begs a question of its usefulness.

In Honda City 5th Gen MT, pressing the clutch doesn't disengage the cruise. Its a very useful feature where we can change gears without cancelling cruise and cruise is supported right from 2nd gear itself, from 30kmph till 180kmph. Also, unlike other brands, Level 2 ADAS on a manual car is available right from V variant which is like the base variant in City world.

The longest I have driven with cruise in India without pressing any of the three pedals is at Mysuru Bengaluru expressway between the two toll booths which are around 80kms apart from each other, so a good 1hr of driving in absolute cruise.
