Animals have the first right always on roads. Not to forget the pedestrians, even if they are jaywalking.
This is the reason that Forest Authority are planning to close the MM Hills Road (Bangalore-Ooty) road at night.
Its a big crime in fact to hit a Animal in forest. Remember Sallu Mian. He has a pending case against him which is still running.

All of us need to reduce speed when near animals - domesticated or wild. In normal circumstances animals would not attack vehicles unless they feel threatened. This is the main reason why people are advised not to get off the vehicle when out in the jungle.

This is definitely not a Barashingha attacking a Santro. I feel it's completely rubbish and a plot by the owner
1. to claim the damages from Insurance for his own negligence.
2. to escape from any legal consequences.

If you observe the damages closely it's a clear indication of Santro hitting the Barasingha from front on it's left hand side. The Santro has hit the animal straight on it's belly crushing the ribs and at the same time the headlight and bonnet with side fenders. Due to the speed of the vehicle and low slung bonnet, the animal has been pulled above and might have rolled it's body to face the legs towards the wind shield. This has finally made a piercing impact on the glass due to the impact of hooves.

I tend to agree.
If you look at the damage right in the center of the windshield - its unlikely that an animal attacking a car would aim there, or even be able to reach.

Well, lets give this the benefit of the doubt and wait till we hear the full story.

From my trip to Ooty through Bandipur I insist the driver NOT TO do the below points:

1. Honk in the forest.
2. Flash lights or drive with high beam as this irritates most of the animals ( Humans included)
3. Drive in high speed ...

Guys .. add some more to this list .. as it will help others who travel through forests.

The road to Ooty through Bandipur is closed after 8 in the night ( Correct me if I am wrong) .. Otherwise there will be a thread like Elephants attack on vehicle.

You might be true here. I have faced a similar damage with a Ford Escort en route to Ooty near Mettupalayam.

It was not a Barashingha that I encountered, but it was a Donkey

The humble animal took a cool walk across the road post impact!

Appreciate your comments Sam_boy. To add to the list:

4. Driving with blaring music the way kids do on Brigade Road or Delhi in general.
5. Stopping in forest area and stepping out to take a walk. (not safe at all)
6. Littering in forests (for that matter anywhere).

Do get a first hand report as to me this looks like a story cooked up purely to claim insurance. Unless the deer tangoed on the bonnet and slipped during the process, I can't think of how the windshield was damaged.

Maybe it just thought of the Santro as an eyesore and did its best to improve the car's looks (I don't think even a really desperate deer would consider the Santro an attractive mate! as for the car being a rival, i'm sure your friend's car doesn't have 12 horns!)

Doesn't look like a deer attack to me too. Some insurance stuff cook up for sure. And how would he reach the front wind shield and the side front door glass, breaking both at the same impact?
