Club of ORVM losers.

Hi There,

It was around 8.30pm today,I was returning from the office in my Optra Magnum.
Following diligently the traffic rules.(It was drizzling)
Just then I had this Biker who came from the opposite direction and passed my car bashing my Right side OVRM.I was stunned, angry, frustrated.
The biker paused, looked back and sped off...
No remorse,no decency to apologise at the least, no courage to face the mistake, no realisation that his recklessness could kill.

I was sorry for that person.
I was sorry for myself.
It dawned to me today that "In the land of the naked, the clothed one is stupid"

or am I wrong? or is this just a reaction of sharing your frustration with your friends.

Either ways, I am inviting all the OVRM losers to this club of mine to share their experiences. The intent is to bring this trivial incident that happens into spot light for the benefit of both the "Bashers" and the "Losers"

Very very frustrating.....share your frustration because I think this is something all of us go through on an almost daily basis - nicks, scratches & breakages of side mirrors.

By the way, it should be ORVM not OVRM ,maybe you want to edit the title

If you're feeling upset, let me refer you to this thread. It's like the story of the man who was upset because he had no shoes, till he met another with no feet!

Indeed. ORVM is short for Outside Rear View Mirrors.

what a timing..
I had a similar instance this morning on my way to work.
An auto was trying to overtake me from my left side and I was trying to maintain a safe distance from him.
At the same time, an indicab sped from the opposite side and banged my right ORVM.
Result - The outer cover and the mirror fell down due to the impact.
Consequently, the outer cover has some major scratches and so does the mirror.

Now, need to go to Concorde and get a new one.

Edit - Already 2 scratches on my car in two weeks of my ownership and both of them happened in the last two days.

I broke my ORVM while sticking a Convex mirror
Lost another to a speeding cyclist.

At Rs 330 for original MGA and Rs 100 for Non OE ORVM,
I don't complain much about it.

Add me to the list. I lost my driver's side OVRM to a cow hit one morning! Not my fault. Two cows were fighting in the middle of the road and one just bolted and hit my OVRM.

It's a shiny monday morning. I started car, switched on the stereo and moved. It did moved like a dream. I am on the road in little bit traffic. Suddenly a driver inside TATA 407 thought himself as a rally champ and tried to overtake car in-front of him and takes a sharp lane shift toward right i.e. my car. Result - I Panic braked, it somehow didn't hitted body but smashed the left ORVM.

It surely is frustrating and irritating to have a such instance, you feel like beating hell out of one who has done the act.

Err, dont mean to rub it in, but perhaps you guys should look at the first post of this thread and try to get something similar for your cars:

My ORVMs are spring loaded and are very resistant to impacts (from bikers, cyclists a lot of times). This hit was just too strong. Thankfully only the glass was broken and not the assembly. The assembly did shift forward as expected due to the hit.

Ummm not all Maruti owners are lucky, I've lost both my ORVM's (in two separate incidents) and the replacement cost was more than 12k (6.2k including painting). BTW, that reminds me, I'm double sufferer here as you guys have lost only one ORVM .

Lost ORVMs

First it was the mirror on our Skoda; luckily only the mirror had to be replaced. Cost: Rs.3000
Recently a biker hit my Endy's mirror. Complete Replacement: Rs.9,000(minus 4.5K from insurance).
Whats with these bikers?

Lost my left ORVM to a bike riding on the wrong side.

Didn't have much space to move as there was also a car coming from the opposite direction, on the correct side, to my right. The biker, in addition to riding on the wrong side, was also busy speaking on his mobile and didn't move enough.

His handlebar hit the casing on the back. While the casing was undamaged, the glass shattered.

I have had a similar experience as Mukaan with my right ORVM, in my case only the cover shattered. I haven't bothered to repair it, and I am glad because it's been hit twice more by bikers, one while trying to squeeze by me while I was stopped at a traffic light, the other time by s biker who wanted to cross through the wrong side at a railway crossing.

Make me the president of this club.

I've lost quite a few on the highways when we had single roads. But last month a cargo auto hit my roght ORVM & just kept going. This was after I got the ORVM painted just then. Very frustrating.
