I drove the Audi R8 V10 Plus on the Hosur Aerodrome!

I got an opportunity to attend the Audi Driving Experience organized by Audi Bengaluru held at the Taneja Airstrip. This event was all about the launch of the all new Audi R8 V10 Plus which was done by Virat Kohli and getting behind the wheel of the cars like Audi RS6,RS7,S5,RS6 Avant and R8 V10 Plus.

So I test drove just 2 cars,the RS7 and ofcourse the R8!

So how the Audi Experience work ?

I got behind the wheel of the Audi RS7, the Instructor walked up to me and said Step on the Pedal and do not slow down until you reach the person who is waving the flag, who I think was atleast 1 km away! Slow down once you reach there take a U Turn come back and follow the same procedure. You do all this while there is no one from Audi Sitting next to you in the car! All you have is a walkie-Talkie in the car where the Instructor guides you or warns you if you are speeding when you actually need to slowdown.

I had seen the RS7 during the drag race here and another time when a couple of supercars were out on a drive and sort of knew how fast this car is but boy the actual feel is when you are behind the wheel! The Turbo-charged 4-litre V8 engine churning out 552HP and 700Nm of Torque turns violent when you step on the pedal! This car is Wolf in sheep's clothing!

I stepped on the pedal and in no time it crosses 100km/hr I saw the runaway and it looks all blurry to me and looked at the speedometer to realize that I have crossed 235km/Hr. DAMN !! I slowed down much before where I was asked to slowdown there were few cones on the right and didn't want to take any chance while doing that Insane speeds!! Haha !

Took a U Turn and again slammed on the pedal and enjoyed the drive! Phew... First time on an Air Strip and it felt amazing !!

Now it was turn for the R8! R8 being a Show stopper was quite busy doing the runs up and down so we had to wait for 15 mins! Our turn comes and I got into the car oh boy the interiors feels so refreshed compared to the previous R8 everything looks so perfect and i continue to have a lot of Grins on my face !!

The R8 has 5.2 Litre engine churning out 610HP and 560NM of Torque which is capable of doing 0-100 km/hr is just 3.2 seconds. This car shares the same engine as the Lamborghini Huracan!

I choose to drive in the Automatic mode put the car in 'D' and I took off !!!! That moment when you hit the pedal the car just took off like anything and within few seconds you are seen doing some insane speeds!

The Brakes felt so different and much powerful compared to the RS7 and I clocked about 240km/Hr. I started braking too early and felt less confident because you need some time to get used to the car, the power it delivers and the Brakes. I kind off got the hang and took a U Turn and waited for the Instructor to tell me to Start !

The moment he said 'Red R8 Start' I slammed the Pedal and the car just obliged and it was nothing less than flying !! I hit my top speed of 253KM/HR and was so excited. I Braked quite late now because i knew how late I need to brake to bring the car to halt !! It was one hell of an experience and I will never forget this ! I stopped the car and got down safely..haha

All in all it was a one off experience, not everyday you get to drive an on Airstrip.It was great to see how Audi has gone level above to conduct an event like this at an Airstrip which I guess no body else have done this! Giving the car away to drive on an Airstrip without an Audi person sitting along with you was something Nice(May be Debatable) and shows the kind of trust Audi has!! Way to go Audi !!

More than the cars, can anyone please throw some light on that plane please?

Any clue on the make and to whom it belongs to? Looks like it is registered in Myanmar and belongs to Air KBZ which is a domestic operator based off Yangon. What is it doing here in Bangalore?

This event was Invite based! I don't think Audi has anything such thing like that here in Bangalore where you can enroll/Pay some amount to drive the cars. How I wish this was available here in Bangalore!

There were quite a few people at the event who had come down to drive the cars. And I think there were atleast 8-10 cars which were doing the runs. There was an Audi TT as well which I forgot to mention in the opening post. These cars were doing back to back runs and there were more people waiting to test drive the cars! The event was just about driving, no instructions/Training given to handle such speeds. All you do in fill up a form and enter a few details, get behind the wheel of the car you like and Step on the Pedal!

Happy to answer if there are any other questions!

PS: I hear there is a Supercar rental going to start very soon in Bangalore. I will put up more details as and when it happens. May be that will be an opportunity to everyone who wants to experience the thrill of Driving a Supercar!

If it is a closed area, then what is the need to use a speed limiter? I think the R8 could have gone higher. As long as it is not a public road, I would want to push it to the limits

The aircraft would have come for maintenance to Taneja aerospace, which maintains the airstrip. Many aircraft come here for their regular checks.

I Guess this air strip belongs to Taneja Aerospace & Aviation limited They do the maintenance activities for the commercial aircrafts. So this could be one of the planes that might have come for the maintenance. I may be entirely wrong though.

Definitely it is capable of doing much higher speeds! There were cones kept at the track and a person waving the flag at about 1.2km from the start line.When this person was visible to me I was doing speeds of about 240+ and it is kind of scary because I didn't know when to brake. I realised later that I had to brake only after I cross the guy who is waving the flag. I took a U Turn and now I was slightly more confident and I reached 253km/Hr.

The New R8 comes with Dual clutch transmission and the gear shifting is lightning fast.If I had used paddle shifters and redlined in all gears perfectly, I could have achieved anywhere between 265-275 on this Airstrip probably! But I was happy doing 253km/Hr

Looks like a great event. Surprised that the entire Audi sports range were there baring the RS5. Looks like they have discontinued it after the S5 has been launched?

Need to account for braking distance. This is not the runway from fast and furious 6.
