Re: Would you buy a performance sedan / SUV over a 2-door sports car?

Voted Yes considering that I had enough money to buy only one car. The condition of our roads make it impractical to own a 2 door sports car. I would be worried about the body scrapes all the time and wouldn't really enjoy the drive.
I am guessing that with an SUV like Lamborghini Urus, you can have the best of both worlds (outright performance and ground clearance).

Voted No. I would love to own a 2-door muscle car that is affordable as well as drive able on normal roads here in the US

I'm right now salivating for this mighty Dodge Challenger Hellcat with a 6.2 Liter Supercharged V8 producing 707 HP

I will prefer to keep a proper 2-door sports car over a super sedan if my budget permits because, the exclusivity and feel good factor is something of a different level, secondly for example the 2 door cars like a Porsche Cayman have a specifically designed mid engine layout which give u a different level of handling, performance and fun to drive factor which can never be matched by super sedans irrespective of the high BHP figures

Voted yes, as I value practicality.
For the occasional fun, one can always rent a Ferrari and drive through Europe.

I completely agree that a sports car is more fun, joyful and powerful.

However, i choose a performance sedan because 9 times out of 10, I may need the practicality that it offers.

For example, here in the US, i would love to own the last V8 manual RWD sedan, the 2017 Chevy SS which gives the practicality of a sedan plus the fun plus the sleeper looks over a used Camaro SS 1LE. The fact that a 2017 Chevy SS manual is still retailing at near MSRP in the used market is an additional reason why i vote sedan !

I voted Yes because
1. Rare species who doesnt want to attract attention. But still want the power/ride /handling of a sports car.
2. A subtle yet super powerful sedan looks very plain and it only attracts a true car lover to identify it. That attraction is something that i love to have.

Votes yes. I don't see myself using a two door sports car to its full potential. Also an Indian middle aged man needs to juggle his wants with that of his family .. I feel a sleeper powerful sedan will do best of both worlds.. ferry people as needed and for the occasional burts of enthusiasm, have enough power and character.

Voted yes. Agree to post #18 of this thread. In fact Porsche Macan is exactly what i had in mind. Love the little Porsche every bit compared to the bigger brutes of Super SUVs.

There is no way, a performance sedan can give you the thrills of a sports car. It is not horse power or torque that really matters. In US the speed limits never let you exploit all the HP in a car. So a performance sedan is pointless. But the agility and response is something that a performance sedan can not match with a lightweight sports car.

For me, Toyota GT86, Mazda Miata, Honda S2000 any-day over C63, M3, WRX.

To all the bachelors out there try these before you get married.

Both have their unique appeal. But I have voted for the super sedan. Had my first experience in such a machine , way back in UK when I had the opportunity to drive my friend's Vauxhall Lotus Carlton.
Will forever remember the whack in the kidneys when the "A-pedal" was pressed. Never have felt that feeling again.

No.

Give me a Mazda MX-5 aka Miata anyday.

If it's for driving pleasure then it should purely be for that and nothing else, no mixing up. If it's for family then it must be a family sedan with luxurious ride quality.

Re: Would you buy a performance sedan / SUV over a 2-door sports car?

Voted Yes, not necessarily because I like large four door sedans or SUVs, but due to the practicality aspect. I like the 4 door iterations of the coupe models – say a M235i. Its small, sporty and relatively practical.

And the ideal garage would be something like a Porsche Macan / Alfa Guilia as the primary car, and a Mini Cooper S / MX-5 as the second car

Someone like me loves a wolf in a sheep's clothing...

I still remember my BAJA SAEINDIA days when late Behram Dhabar came for inspection in his famed modified Fiat 1100. It was that moment I want to surprise all the guys with nrmal looking family cars.

I enjoy "Buzinga"ing people in my GT TSI

I'd use the right tool for the right job, rather than using a swiss army knife for everything.

Re: Would you buy a performance sedan / SUV over a 2-door sports car?

Voted yes, our infrastructure in India does not support driving a low slung sports coupe without the fear of scraping the underbody. Unless I have to drive alone on an autobahn, would choose a practical car with 4 doors and enough power to get the job done and have fun while doing it
