The RAV4 is one of these most popular SUVs in the US. In terms of reliability, features & perfomance, its scored a 9/10 in almost any car review.
Would be a good option to introduce it in India. Approx Rs18-22 lakhs..

Frankly, looks more like a toy car to me. People are saying (eg about the fabia) that India won't pay such money for a hatchback: why should it pay so much for a miniature SUV?

Guys beleive me - Its an awesome mini SUV. It is very spacious on the inside. Very comfortable. All controls are just in the right place. I had fun driving this SUV. I'd love to see this on the Indian Roads but then like someone said - I doubt someone would want to pay so much for this. One of primary reasons why the Forester failed I guess.

The new RAV4 is far from a toy. It has to be the most fun to drive SUV and IMHO is much better than Grand Vitara or CRV. I had one for 2 weeks in the US just after a week with the Vitara and its a superb drive.

There are 2 variants one with 2.4 and another is a V6. Mileage is very good for SUV which is why its among the top selling SUVs in US. The diesel is also available but sold only in Europe I think. Sells for between $20-26000

I second that. The RAV4 has a pretty good feel to it. I was considering getting one in 2004,but decided against it at the last minute. It definitely feels better than the Vitara. The new RAV4 costs b/w $22K & $28K.

I stand corrected: I obviously have a completely wrong impression, and have never driven one.

I still can't help thinking of semolina when I see one (looks like RAVA on the back) but you guys have me convinced it's more desirable than I thought!

the RAV4 is the best all rounder car i know of. i wish it comes officially to india with the auto box. its priced well has good features is sturdy is an suv. the only down side is its not made of grade 1 steel. wish it were more powerful and had a diesel option too. i love this car. theres very little left out in it. can blindly go in for one without thinking much or going wrong. its the perfect size for our traffic. the rear seat could be placed slightly more back to increase middle row legroom. can have a supercharged option like the jap mods. its one of the few suvs that have a very stable handling like the porsche or the hummer. not easy to turtle it over. surely the everyday use car for india.

The need for turbocharging the RAV4 arises only if you want some serious off-roading. Otherwise the power is quite sufficient. Leg room in the previous version seems to be a bit more. None-the-less,the 3rd row of seats does seat kids with ease.Adults have a bit of a problem hopping into the back of the SUV.
