Congratulations Yogi! Everytime I hear or see the "VFR800" - I am reminded of Robin a.k.a. Rtech and his VFR (Getting to know the VFR better.).

So is the VFR going to re-place the Bandit or the Blade - or is it an addition to the 2? Looking forward to more details on the VFR now

Hearty congrats Yogi, I'm beginning to get envious at the collection now
The VFR could well have been my first big bike, I'd made up my mind to buy a red VFR circa 2010, had it not been for missing documents which made me back away. I hope that you got all the legally required papers with this.

This gen 2 VFR is the my favorite. Didn't like what Honda did with subsequent 2002 gen 3 VFR, though the current iteration is nicer.

Thanks buddy. Subsequent VFRs had a better looking tail for sure, the dual front headlights did not go well.

Have been working on the bikes since 2 weeks and here are few updates for you.
My Garage: Suzuki Bandit GSF1250, Kawasaki Ninja 1000 Z1000SX & 2016 Triumph Thunderbird Storm 1700-imageuploadedbyteambhp1514351952.728378.jpg

VFR has a complicated braking system. Its called the CDBS combined dual braking system.
Each caliper has 3 pistons. You hit the front brake and the outer pistons of the front 2 calipers come in action along with the center piston of the rear caliper.
You hit the rear brakes: outer pistons of the rear and center piston of the front calipers come in action.
Faced a wierd issue, hitting the front brakes would lock the rear wheel making it not moveable at all. Figured out it was a small spring n ball which was stuck in active position on the front left caliper secondary master cylinder (Delay Valve)

Right caliper bracket of the VFR is a little cracked and pads are not holding its place. Have called in a for a replacement caliper which should be in soon.

Quick shifter is now installed on the bandit and does the job well.

re: My Garage: Suzuki Bandit GSF1250 & Kawasaki Ninja 1000 Z1000SX

Usual upkeep work was on during the last months holidays. VFR800 LCD was busted , got it replaced with a used one from the UK. All the bikes now run LED bulbs and these bulbs are real bright. Spend some time with the accord adding 3.5MM Audio jack and replacing the engine belt and Power steering pump O ring.
Added steering wheel audio controls to the accord, got a set of used buttons from the US and wired them through the head unit.
some pics to keep the thread alive.
Home work for the speedohealer install on the 1000RR is done , once i get time i will install it and test ride.

re: My Garage: Suzuki Bandit GSF1250 & Kawasaki Ninja 1000 Z1000SX

Small updates to keep the thread alive. Did not ride much during April and May due to the weather being very hot.

Bandit was suffering from poor and unstable idle, basically this is caused due to dirty clogged ISC valve. Removed and cleaned it well and the bike idles as normal now.

Did ride the CBR on a weekend and here are the pics. 1000RR got a new MRA windscreen.

Finally the VFR800 is completely restored and fit for long rides. this was the first long ride on the VFR. What a comfortable bike it is and its a rocket post 5000 RPM. Front calipers were replaced, all hydraulic fluids were replaced. Bleeding the CBS brakes was a nightmare, followed the manual and got it done and then it worked like a charm.

Last update for the time being : Little master got his first ride.

Our taste in bikes must be similar, as I also own a red 5th gen VFR & I'm searching for a CBR as well, but in my case, I want an original SC28 CBR900RR

Feel free to drop me a PM if you get stuck for parts or need anything from the UK

Hey Rob, i have seen your thread on the VFR , but didn't reply thinking its an old thread and you might have changed the ride by now. Nice to know that you still own the VFR800. 5th Gen are a gem mate. We indeed have similar taste . SC28s and good condition hard to find in INDIA, but i guess you can find many in the UK.

Sure mate if I need anything from the UK i will send you a PM. What I have observed that parts are quite expensive in the UK compared to US, currently i am getting new OEM parts directly from Japan and it surely costs less than the UK or the US. Individual parts cost sometimes are high that US partzilla rates and upon asking the reason from the supplier , they said US is a huge market of bulk supplies.

re: My Garage: Suzuki Bandit GSF1250 & Kawasaki Ninja 1000 Z1000SX

The VFR is a keeper, the gen5 is just too good to sell!

SC28's in the UK come up but already trending 20-30% up on good late 90s blades. An unmolested one would be 4-5 lac here. A lot have been used as track bikes as we have a big track day culture.

They seem to be cheaper in parts of Europe, I keep an eye on Germany especially as those guys have very tight safety inspections like us and tend to really look after their bikes. For me to go to the hassle of importing it would have to be in HRC colours and mint condition though!

US will be cheaper for new parts new due to tax and currency valuations but we get good supplies of 2nd hand parts here quite cheap as the VFR was very popular and a fair few get written off on insurance for minor accidents owing to how busy and slippery our roads are - I picked up a mint condition set of OEM 47mm 98-99 headers for $30 last year for example, and a good spare set of wheels for $40.

WOW thats a great price for the spares. 98-99 Header get corroded soon, they rust all the way from the top to the bottom.

By the way mine is a 99 Make JDM 180KMPH locked vehicle. I replaced the 180KMPH dial with US Spec MPH dial and did the wiring mode at the ECM to remove the restriction.

Mine were corroded badly on the collector where they meet the link pipe to the silencer and eventually snapped. I made repairs with the welder using some uncorroded metal from a scrap car exhaust about 3 years ago and it is still working fine. I plan to get the spare set soda blasted and treated with a black heat resistant coat when I get around to fitting them. The wheels have been shot blasted and repainted gloss black with a red pinstripe.

Mine has just ticked over 30,000 miles - when I get time / inclination to buy another bike I will strip the VFR down and give it a proper going over to fit these parts

re: My Garage: Suzuki Bandit GSF1250 & Kawasaki Ninja 1000 Z1000SX

Back with some updates on the bike. Didnt ride much as it was raining pretty heavy in July.
Did a major service of the Bandit , fuel pump motor gave up which is common problem on the suzukis . Changed the motor and cleaned the pump unit, look at the dirt in the Indian fuel which they supply.
Bandit also got a Power commander 5 + Autotune and the PC3 was removed from bike. Quickshifter is still functional with the PC5 , had to mod the wiring of the QS.

VFR800 got a gear indicator fixed, did the 2K ohms resistor mod at the ecm which rectified the speedo error.
All the bikes got few decals just to spend time with the bikes doing something.

A rat chewed the LED light wire on the accord, soldered it and its back to life.
