Great news, but i dout we would have roads to ride those machines in 2009 as the traffic is growing the way it is now. As i myself personly ride a R1 now, i find it very difficult in the traffic. We prefer in the nights but even then, cops are the big problem for us. Gods know how it would be in 2009.

Ok. Dunno if this is a joke. I am in disbelief. But here goes. I've recently spoken to 2 Yamaha dealers; one (rather small) dealer from Vasai, and another one from Andheri, and guess what; both of them gave the following (suspiciously similar) testimonies...

Me: " So, I hear the 600 and 1000cc models from Yamaha are due soon. Are the stories true? "

Dealers: " Yes."

Me: " Could you enlighten me with the details please? "

Dealers: " Well, the 600cc bike will be available on order from August-September. The company will be offering warranty, service backup and all necessary paperwork. We know that the Drag Star was a disaster, but the company is already solving the technical issues. Dealer/workshop personnel will soon begin training for the 600cc model. "

Me: " So, you're telling me that a 600cc Yamaha is coming out this year? What about the 1000cc? "

Dealers: " Yes, the 600cc will be out soon, but we do not know about the 1000cc in detail. The regional office told us that the 1000cc could come out by next year. "

Now that's the gist. Well? I'm still in disbelief, and don't know what to make of this....Although I'm wishing deep inside for this to be true, a part of me thinks otherwise.

I had shelled a hell lot of money to Move my fireblade from Kansas to here and then sold it in 6 months, but yeah, If this happens, no more of that pain / Dont have to go to bangkok and do all the TR ying yang anymore here, Just book, pay and ride, but i am dead sure they cannot provide the service backup, Those " Tools " who call themselves mechs at the yamaha showrooms dont know jack of anything, well the service is arranged over here too, only parts backup must be available, even if we have to pay a premium and wait 10 days its okay, but at least available.

Coincidentally, my friend bought a Yamaha R1 today itself! Its a red and black bike, 2nd hand, 2003 model. It arrived a few hours ago by lorry from Cochin! Its re-registered number plates havent yet arrived. He bought it from a Cochin guy he'd met at the Bangalore Speed Run 2005. This guy is apparently some importer/dealer of Yamaha bikes as well as an estate owner. The bike has an after-market exhaust and front fairing - transclusent red in color.
The bike costed approx Rs 7. lakhs - all inclusive, and to answer a post in this topic, my friend applied for a personal loan of Rs 7 lakhs for this bike and was paying the EMIs from January 2006 itself ! So now, along with the EMI for his 2nd hand Esteem (which he bought last year), my pal repays Rs 12000 p.m for both vehicles!

I think Bajaj have enough time to make a strong presence in 250cc till 2008 bcoz I donot think that yamaha will launch 250 segment before 2008 and also bajaj is already performing well and an it is indian company too that means we will get spare parts easily and cheaper than others. If yamamha 250 fazer and bajaj 250cc(other that dts-fi bcoz it is not fit for long tours) bike gives same performence than I will definately choose Bajaj.

no luck as on date

hi i faithfully went to the showroom just now and made all sorts of enquiries. the info i got is not all that encouraging.

they told me that the 250 may be launched in 2008 and he says there is no info on R6 . i specifically told him that there are some confirmed reports etc. etc. and made him to call up the local bangalore office of Yamaha india. after a short conversation (i dont know with whom and how important the person in the organisation) he informed me that there are no such plans as on date.

very bad

Hmmm - I wonder if he bought it from Kuttan who imports and resells used performance bikes after rebuilding them.
