Harley Davidson to assemble three models in India, whopping reduction in prices Harley-Davidson has said that it will assemble the Heritage Softail Classic, Fat Boy Special and the iconic Fat Boy in India. More importantly, the decision allows Harley-Davidson to slash prices by up to Rs 4.55 lakh on these models
Previously, they were imported as Completely Built-Up (CBU) imports, thus attracting prohibitive import duties. Motorcycle assembly will take place at the Harley-Davidson facility in Bawal, Haryana.
The Fat Boy is now cheaper by Rs 4.55 lakh (enough to buy a Chevrolet Sail hatch!) at Rs 14.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Fat Boy Special will be cheaper by Rs 4.2 lakh at Rs 16.25 lakh and you could be cruising down the highway on the Heritage Softail Classic for Rs. 15.6 lakh (cheaper by Rs 4.1 lakh).
Harley-Davidson has 12 models in their India lineup, out of which nine are CKD (Complete Knockdown Units). The other CKD models are from the Sportster family (SuperLow, Iron 883, Forty-Eight) and Dyna family (Street Bob, Super Glide Custom and Fat Bob). Harley-Davidson’s price range in India starts at 5.6 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) for the SuperLow. Prices of the other models remain unchanged.
The company has a first-mover advantage in the premium high capacity motorcycle segment, as almost every other manufacturer is affected by the government’s decision to increase customs duty on imported motorcycles (800 cc and above) to 75 % (from the earlier 60 %).
The company expects double digit growth this year.
Harley-Davidson Fat Boy will now be offered at Rs 14.9 Lakh (ex- showroom Delhi) as against the previous CBU price of Rs. 19.45 Lakh:
The Fat Boy Special will be offered at Rs 15.6 Lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) as against the earlier CBU price of 19.70 Lakh:
Heritage Softail Classic will be offered at Rs.16.25 Lakh (ex- showroom Delhi) as against the previous CBU pricing of Rs. 20.45 Lac:
