"The new 2014 Honda CBR650F and Honda CB650F are based on the same platform and as is obvious, the new bikes would sit above the CB500 and CBR500 models.

The new bikes are powered by a 649cc inline-four cylinder motor that has been designed to be compact and have a forward cant of 30 degrees. The motor has a bore and stroke of 67mm x 46mm and the engine benefits from 16 valves and a DOHC head. Honda says that the timing of the new engine has been optimized for better real world drivability and the engine is said to offer plenty of torque below 4000 rpm. The motor has a max power of 85.8hp @11,000rpm and a peak torque of 46.5 ft-lb @8000 RPM.

Re: 2014 Honda CBR650F And CB650F Unveiled

Absolutely loved both from the design front. That 4 exhaust pipes in the 650F looks wicked indeed! The CBR650F is drop dead gorgeous from the front and rear quarter views.

I was not at all happy about the recent Honda designs going seriously blunt. But this brings back the found memories of the pre-2013 CBR600RRs. Well played Honda! This EICMA was not at all disappointing.

Does anyone know if these models would be launched in India?

As of now it is only for European and Asian markets, no official word about India yet.

Basic suspension setup and lack of electronic aids suggests it should have a killer pricing.

With Honda unveiling the 650 cc bikes do expect them in India a little later than the world wide launch. In India the 600cc is not allowed but anything over that is…hence as one has seen with Kawasaki and soon with Triumph..they both have the 650 and the 675 respectively for the Indian market. Honda won't stay far behind and soon one can see the battle for the middle order take place. The CB650F would be the perfect choice of bike for India due to the riding stance and the right amount of power.

One doubt, the restriction in India is on the 600's cubic capacity alone, or is it only on 600cc Inline 4-s? Any idea why this sort of restriction is existing?

The restriction is for 600cc and lower CC bikes with any engine type. This rule was initially made to protect the Indian manufacturers from loosing business to International Manufacturers.

: I was under the impression that the restriction is for 800cc bikes and below, i.e., anything below 800cc needs to be homologated or something of that sort. Does anyone have a concrete info on this?

The PDF at this link gives definite rate of duty for motorcycles below 800cc as well, and that has left me confused.

MODs please delete this post if this is going too OT.

It's absolutely ticking off! Isn't it?.. I mean, machines like the r6,fz6, gsxr 600, cbr 600 etc were built to satisfy the exhilarating demonic urge in you! And the sweet sound of those inline 4's, that alone would make you buy one of these. Why, just why isn't there at least one of these sweet sounding bikes for sale in India, we got the ninja 650, the upcoming sub 800cc harleys, hyosungs, but no, not one single inline four.
And I honestly think litre class bikes don't exactly shout out practicality on our roads and it would pinch anybody if something were to happen to their 15 lakh bike. I'd choose a 600cc inline four over a 1000cc any day in India.
Sorry for expressing my frustration

Re: 2014 Honda CBR650F And CB650F Unveiled

I wish and pray HMSI introduces these models in India soon. With not so aggressive seating position, proper pillion seat this would be the most sensible super sport.

Earlier when they launched/reintroduced the CBR00F in 2010/11, it was eagerly waited and speculated to get launched in INdia. HOwever, that mever happened, hope Honda brings these this time.

the USD forks are missed though.

I am going as per what the motorcycle manufacturers have told me. 600cc and below is not allowed unless manufactured in the Country. I shall find out more information regarding this.

Look at the brighter side manufacturers are now developing 600 plus CC as in 636, 650 and 675 to cater to the Indian market as well.. The grey market does have a lot of 600's for sale but i would not advice anyone to buy them as most of them have been illegally imported. Litre class bikes like the Yamaha FZ1 and the CB 1000 make sense for our roads but yes practicality wise i would say a 400 to 600 cc bike is perfect any thing more is overkill. In india you still pay about 6 lakhs registered Mumbai for a kawasaki Ninja 650 which is high in my opinion as it is assembled/ made in pune. Prices should be less but due to out duties and taxes we end up paying more.

Exactly exchoes my sentiments as well. I had long wished for bikes like CB400, Hornet, FZ6 but we still dont have a middle weight sub 800cc inline 4 machine in India. The sound of those i4 machines still makes me go weak on my knees.

Earlier, when CBR600F was launched couple of years back, I managed to speak with the PR lady of HMSI and she had said that they 'might' consider bringing it in around 2-3 yrs time. The timing seems just right, as Honda has launched these bikes with Europe and Asia focus.

Ride safe,
Abhishek

Is it just me or does the CB650f look a lot like the Husqvarna Nuda 900r barring the 4 pipes obviously.

here's a picture for reference.

Thread bump

The CBR650F is going to be showcased by HMSI in Auto Expo. This has been reported and we can safely presume (I would rather pray ) that this gets launched in India.

Re: 2014 Honda CBR650F And CB650F Unveiled

I am really waiting for this bike to get launched in India. I am planning to buy it. The reviews till now look acceptable. I have even started saving for the downpayment too.

If anyone gets any news for the launch dates please let us know, it will help us pass time during this wait. As of now I think it is expected to come next year maybe late next year.
