Re: Honda New 1100 CB

Hard to say anything, only HMSI knows what its going to do. But given that the CB1100 is a niche bike, and if the sales aren't that big for Honda worldwide, there's a good chance it will eventually land here.

Re: Big, retro naked / semi-faired bikes from Honda

Well, the updated 2017 model year CB 1100 has been announced for Japan, Europe and USA.

Japan :

UK :

USA :

It would be REALLY interesting if Honda India decide to tap into the buyer base interested in retro Universal Japanese Motorcycles (UJMs).

Very evidently, there's a large buyer base for classic looking retro-style bikes in the form of cruisers and standard bikes from H-D, Indian and Triumph.

Honda India has to figure out a way of convincing this pool of enthusiasts to be drawn to these '70s / '80s style beauties.

Cheers,

FourWheelDrift

P.S. I'm already dreaming of fitting a set of these to the bike ... to liberate the engine's song

I agree it's a great bike to be available in India, but there is something about this bike you need to know which might explain why it's not here.

The CB needs a ridiculously low interval (4000 mi, approximately I think) valve adjustment.

With the service facilities available in India, I doubt seeing it soon on our shores.

Disappointing, I know.

Cheers

Ride Safe.

Re: Big, retro naked / semi-faired bikes from Honda

Hi Guys,
Thanks to all of you. I did send an email to Honda India and surprisingly I got a call back almost instantly......unfortunately could not take the call. Hope they call back.
4000 mi for Tappet check !! Wow ... agree that's a big issue.
From what I am reading the bike seems to be quite a hit in the USA though.
Keeping fingers crossed.
Regards,
Seacat

All the online forums say 8000 miles (13,000km) for a valve clearance check. Also, most people report that the inspection reveals no need for adjustment at 8000 miles.

Have a look at the Owner's Manual here

... see page 39 of the manual.

Re: Big, retro naked / semi-faired bikes from Honda

There have been a few developments in this space (large capacity, 4 cylinder retro bikes) since Feb '17, especially at the just concluded Tokyo Motor Show.

1. 2017 Honda CB1100 EX and all its sub variants

2. 2018 Kawasaki Z900RS and all its sub variants

3. The continued upgrade of Honda's evergreen CB400 Super Four and CB1300 Super Bol D'or.

Most of these bikes are now Euro 4 compliant, and could easily make the move over to our market - either as CBUs or SKDs.

It's sad that both these strong Japanese marques have left the retro craze to flourish at the hands of other brands - Triumph primarily, with Enfield and Norton to follow ... and Mahindra with BSA / Jawa hopefully at some point in the future.

Still, we live in the hope that Honda and Kawasaki will give retro multis a shot here in India.

Cheers,

Re: Big, retro naked / semi-faired bikes from Honda

Guys bumping up this thread. Honda has been making a lot of noise recently about it's plan for Indian big bike segment. Is there even the remotest possibility of the CB1100 being seen in our showrooms?

I really believe they can sell a few of these here, after all if Triumph can why can not Honda?

Re: Big, retro naked / semi-faired bikes from Honda

No. There are 5 bikes in the pipeline over next 3 years when the Silverwing dealership multiplies by 3 folds from existing count. The Rebel 300 looks like a possibility because Mr.Guleria in an AutoX interview on Youtube said the CB300R sales have gone beyond their target of 500 units a year already despite launching late.
The 2020 Fireblade and Fireblade Sp will be another entry. The Africa Twin 2020 is another model to be launched. That leaves 2 more additions which is anybodies guess. I personally am inclined to guess that the CB650R will also be landing on our shore next year since the CB300R Neo sports cafe design is a hit in the market.
