Re: LiveWire: The Electric Motorcycle from Harley-Davidson

That really looks amazing! Total non-Harley kind of look. But the sound. Damn, it sounds like an electric toy train. A Harley without its potato-potato exhaust is as blasphemous as a Ferrari without its 8 - 12 cylinders singing their glorious tune.

Am just happy that our generation has witnessed ICE engines at their pinnacle .

I think its a good thing that Harley is moving beyond caring for what its "regular" customers think. This is the only way HD can introduce some modernity in its bikes and make them competitive. Anyway the target population for typical HD type machines is going down by the day as millennials and Gen-Y are more interested in lighter, faster & more fun machines.

Well, we've kind of all seen the LiveWire in action and accepted the scene without making much of a fuss -

I can live with the missing potatoes, but will get an inline4 someday before the world goes electric silent. And post the electric era, listen to this soundtrack for nostalgia and goosebumps -

PS: Need headphones.

Re: LiveWire: The Electric Motorcycle from Harley-Davidson

Now launched at $29,799!
A step in the right direction by Harley. Though this will not bring them immediate gains, it'll keep them better prepared for the future. Hope Indian manufactures start looking at the electric motorcycle scene more seriously.
Quote:
Harley Davidson LiveWire electric launch price $29,799 (approx. Rs 21 L)
One of the oldest motorcycle manufacturers in the world, Harley Davidson has launched their first ever electric motorcycle. The new Harley Davidson LiveWire has been priced at $29,799 (approx. Rs 21 lakhs).
That’s a lot more when you compare with other electric motorcycles on offer. For example, the Zero electric motorcycle, which has been called Tesla of motorcycles, is priced from about $10,000.
Whereas the HD LiveWire is launched at a price of an electric car, for eg, new Hyundai Kona electric SUV is sold at $30,000. Not that more money will get you more range. Harley Davidson LiveWire has a ‘urban’ range of about 177 kms. Zero electric bike claims to deliver 359 kms in the city, while Hyundai Kona delivers in excess of 450 kms.Harley LiveWire does a 0-100 kmph spring in 3.5 seconds; making it one of the fastest Harley Davidson motorcycle ever. What about the sound? Well, there is no exhaust note, but Harley Davidson says that the LiveWire is developed to deliver “a new signature Harley-Davidson sound as it accelerates.”
Source.
P.S: What's with the “a new signature Harley-Davidson sound as it accelerates.” part?

The final drive gears have been machined with a bevelled edge to create a turbine like whine on acceleration.

Ride Safe
