KTM 1390 Super Duke R, 990 Duke & 890 Adventure coming to India

According to a media report, KTM is planning to introduce three new big bikes in India. These include the 1390 Super Duke R, the 990 Duke and the 890 Adventure.

The 1390 Super Duke R is KTM’s flagship naked bike. It is powered by a 1,350cc LC8 V-twin engine that develops 187 BHP and 145 Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox via a slip-and-assist clutch.

The 990 Duke is a slightly tamer version of the Super Duke R. It is powered by a 990cc parallel-twin engine that makes 121 BHP and 103 Nm.

The 890 Adventure is an off-road-focused ADV powered by an 889cc parallel twin engine, producing 103 BHP and 100 Nm. KTM might also bring the 890 Adventure R to India.

The report states that these bikes could be offered in limited numbers. The bikes would be put through intense testing before they are launched in the Indian market.

KTM is also said to revamp its retail and service network in India. New dealerships will be set up to handle the sales and service of the big bikes.

More new big bikes is always great news, but these only cater to the high-end street naked and adventure categories, which already have a wide and diverse range of options to choose from. KTM should try and bring bikes like the 690 SMC and the 690 Enduro. The market seriously lacks some fun high-powered lightweight motorcycles, and these would really add the necessary spice .

Re: KTM 1390 Super Duke R, 990 Duke & 890 Adventure coming to India

My God, I'm truly happy to see this news. It was always my dream to own the Superduke 1290R, just for the torque rush, just to feel what 100NM torque at 3500rpm feels like, what a hypercommute feels like... Now, its been revamped to 1350cc.

And, we have the naked version of Hayabusa, just around 60 kgs lighter, far more dynamic in nature and about the same torque up and down everywhere.
Do we need it? No. Do we want it? Definitely yes! At least I do.

And its such a beautiful engine, you can wrap it to anything: offroader, tourer, racing bike, sports tourer, power commuting naked, anything, it won't disappoint.

My only wish is that it comes in as a domestic production vehicle, not a Rs. 20 Lakh CBU please.

Believe me when I say, KTM is actually giving good very service, even to my 2013 Duke 390, recently overhauled at official SvC after 1.4 Lakhs kms, going strong like anything. They're definitely ready for the next level.
Although, I would've loved a Duke 690 single cylinder too, but this is dream.. <3

Oh my god! If this actually happens, it'll be the best thing to have ever happened to the Indian superbike scene in a long while. The KTM V-twins are absolute torque monsters and sound beautifully raucous. The new 1390 Duke looks polarizing at first look, but trust me it grows on you very quickly. I love the sharp predator-y face and the split exposed headlamps.

Traditionally, KTM chops the wheelbase off their big bikes to give them a supermoto-like feel which is addictive to say the least. They turn telepathically and are absolute wheelie monsters! A friend of mine claims to have hit 55 deg lean angle on a 990 Duke in Cali.

Hope KTM markets this well, leading to good sales and confidence to bring in their entire big bike portfolio to India.

Sadly it was mentioned in the article limited numbers which definitely means imported CBU units. It makes little sense to localize production of a bike that is going to sell in single digits.

Amongst the line up only the Adventure 890 has any hope of doing double digit sales per month. The Tiger 900 has got a nice bump to it's power so it's now on par with the KTM which will hurt it's sales. If they launched the Adventure earlier it might have dented the sales of the Triumph especially with all the dealer issues Triumph owners are facing.

On a lighter unrelated note if you want to experience 100 nm of torque at 3500 rpm you just need to ride a Harley 😁

Fun! Fun! Fun! That's what I felt on reading the news. But as Samarth_619, rightly said, a CKD would be welcome in India. I feel that after the 790 Duke's debacle in India, KTM would definitely be better prepared this time around. Also, given that Triumph has aligned with Bajaj, it makes things all the more competitive. That's good news for us end consumers. It's good that we're spoilt with choices. I also hope that KTM offers a premium purchasing and after-sales experience with its big bikes. Good times ahead!

They are indeed working on dedicated dealerships for their premium bikes.

Re: KTM 1390 Super Duke R, 990 Duke & 890 Adventure coming to India

Rakesh Sharma of Bajaj confirmed on the Evo India podcast that they will bring the big bikes, and it seems like they're serious about it. Hope they eventually manufacture it here rather than come the CKD/CBU route.

Any idea if the Duke 790 will make it to our shores? That would be the perfect upgrade from the D390.

That 1390 Super Duke R looks straight out of hell to take your soul. I need to remind myself, I cannot have 3 bikes in my garage and hope not to sleep on the sofa .
