Re: Superbikes spotted in India

I saw a Kawasaki ZX6R in Blore near the Volvo dealership at Race Course road, last week. Was driving so couldn't take any pics. But it did sound lovely. Might have had aftermarket pipes but can't say for sure since i could only catch a glimpse of it. It looked like the current gen brand new piece but since I spotted it only for a second or so, I can't be sure of the model year.

KTM 950 & 1190 Adventure motorcycles spotted in India

Link to News Section

Austrian motorcycle maker KTM's Adventure line of motorcycles are aimed at long distance tourers. Globally, KTM's Adventure line is a popular alternative to the likes of BMW's GS range and Ducati's Multistrada range. In the Indian market though, KTM has chosen to foray into only the small capacity sportsbike market. KTM produces the Duke 125, 200 and the 390 motorcycles in India, through its Indian partner, Bajaj Auto. While the Duke 200 and 390 models are sold in India and are also exported from here, the 125 is meant solely for the export markets. In the near future, KTM doesn't have any plans of launching its high capacity motorcycles in India.

With that background in place, we may consider the newly emerged images of the KTM 950 Adventure and 1190 Adventure, shot on the outskirts of Bangalore. According to BikeAdvice, both these motorcycles did not feature number plates, which is a mandatory feature even on test vehicles. The absence of number plates and the surrounding lack of information has led to feverish speculations on the Indian motoring web that the 950 Adventure and the 1190 Adventure could be India bound. However, this doesn't seem very likely given the fact that the KTM 950 Adventure has been long discontinued.

So, the two motorcycles spotted on the outskirts of Bangalore are more likely to be private imports rather than test mules. Also, most high capacity motorcycles with engine capacities of over 800 cc sold in India, are imported through the completely built unit (CBU) route. Global motorcycle manufacturers testing their high capacity, CBU motorcycles before launching them in India, is virtually unheard of. Given the tiny motorcycle touring market that exists in India, one that will play host to the likes of the KTM Adventure line and the BMW GS line, CBU import makes more sense than CKD assembly.

Therefore, KTM testing motorcycles that it could eventually import through the CBU route, is something that's highly unlikely. Globally, the KTM 950 Adventure has been replaced by the 990 Adventure, which also has a successor called the 1190 Adventure. KTM's immediate plans for India includes a fully faired versions of the Duke 200 & 390, dubbed the RC 200 & 390, and Adventure versions of the Duke small capacity twins. KTM Stores in India currently display the RC8 Superbike and the 350 SX-F off road bike as brand builders.

As of now it's only speculation and nothing is confirmed yet. We will move it to a dedicated thread when confirmed news arrives.

Spotted a Ducati Diavel near Electronic City Bangalore in September second last week. Not sure if this is the same white one discussed earlier.

The Harley alongside the Iron is a Superlow.

The first Super Glide pic was taken on a different occasion, albeit at the same place.

EDIT: oops my bad. The bike alongside the Iron is also a Super Glide. Thanks for the correction speedy bhai.
