Riding the 2005 yam R1 is the most breathtaking adventure in my life.

0-100 in less than 3 seconds and after shifting to the 2nd, as i accelerated sanely , i realised the torque was building up and after 9000 rpm, the front wheel lost contact with mother earth....goosebumps all over my body...,and i wasnt even trying to do a wheelie or accelerating hard.

My friends, if u can handle 180 bhp driven to a single wheel, the 2004-05 Yamaha R1 is one of the ultimate set of wheels u can ride in ur life.

But, i've voted for the Honda fireblade 1000RR. i guess,i'm addicted to Honda.

I would prefer the R1 anyday..its the ultimate bike for most and its ridable unlike the GSX1000...and it looks and performs just as good.

Makes no sense comparing the two as the Duke is 300% or more costlier than the R1.

WOW look at the stats. Yamaha is the clear winner and Honda loses out.

I think it is because Honda has not really given its bikes a proper personality with needed marketing.

Well, the RC-51 doesn't need personality, it has what it takes to be a superbike and it has history and reputation of Honda, Yamaha R-1 is a phenomenally good looking bike, that I fully agree, as usual, Yamaha sticks to it's truly radical approach whereas Honda sticks to tried and tested conventional one except for the engine which is a tech showcase.

Years back in US in 80s, Honda and Yamaha would run some of the most interesting ad campaign, Honda would show a group of rider following a Honda Magna, that would be followed by a the Honda wing insignia, namely the eagle and then the caption would read," follow the leader, ride a Honda", Yamaha's reply was brilliant, they would show a roar of a Yamaha Fazer in an empty stretch of highway and then the camera would zoom to the blurry Fazer, which would of course, disappear in a flash, the caption would read, Ride a Yamaha, don't follow anyone.

Tells you a lot about the individual philosophies of these two great gladiators, sadly after Rainey's tragic departure from the world of racing, Yamaha went through its most painful and humiliating period of whitewashing by Honda for seven long years, seems like Yamaha just couldn't catch up with 4 stroke technology even with 5 valves per cylinder, Honda innovated with V5 single crank design and Yamaha had to copy that to catch up, plus they made the best move in taking Rossi and Honda did the big mistake in loosing him.
