There are some very good suggestions here however, i will just tell you what i did.

I had a Ford fusion. Fantastic car, bought it used for 4.3 something, sold it for 2.2 after 5 years and 53,000 kms of usage.

Next bought a used Nissan X trail for 6.3 including insurance. Net cost came to 4.2.

Picture yourself in above scenario (with a CRV or a Tuscon), wont you be happy? I certainly am

Considering your usage being low, i would suggest to go for pre owned CR-V/ Santa Fe or a Tucson. They are much comfortable, safer and are of a premium built. Make sure you get one after all the appropriate checks.

I would stretch a bit more and go for a ladder on frame SUV.

Since usage is less, hoping that maintenance will be less as well, Play with Budget a bit and get TATA HARRIER !!

Thanks again everyone for valuable inputs, here is my take on some of suggestions. This message is based on purely my priorities and constraints.

1) Hector -- No way i'm trusting a Chinese brand, unless there is no choice or i'm caught at gun point
2) bharatbits suggested Harrier -- Its an amazing car, i dont even see a single deal breaker in top spec manual trim. My heart says "go for it", brain says "Dont think much, lets buy it" but bank account says are you insane
3) Im still trying to understand what is ladder on frame and why i should buy one for my needs.
4) No luxury brands like audi, merc, bmw. For the same reason as #2.
5) Tiguan seems good option. But no reasonable ads for used ones in Bangalore. I could see one that ran 60,000kms, 2 year old, in pics it looks dirty and costing 25 lacs.
6) Sanjivvohra suggested skoda superb. I can definitely consider if i can get <5yr old manual one in my budget. Its an excellent machine but i wont trust automatic gearbox from skoda. Have not done any search on this yet.
