We had a fun outing. As tilt said, a short one - but it was certainly fun and the lunch was great.

Chennai folks gathered - a trifle later than the planned 6.30 am - at Sri Hotel Highway Jains in Thirumazhisai. Not to be confused with a very similarly named neighbouring restaurant.

After breakfast, we proceeded to Vellore, with the first few dozen kilometers till Kanchipuram spent threading through thick traffic including a long and slow moving convoy of army trucks.

Arriving at the Vellore fort, we found that most of the interior was actually off limits as it had become a police training college, but we did spend an enjoyable half hour or so in the fort museum and took the obligatory photographs.

Lunch was eight km away at Tom’s Diner, a popular student hangout American style diner in a small lane opposite the VIT (Vellore Institute of Technology) campus gate. A long lunch, relished to the full by the many meat lovers and the sole vegetarian, (who ate a fried egg along with his vegetable fried rice).

Paradiddle joined us from Bangalore at the fort while Arun_Josie and his wife joined us for lunch at Tom’s.

A two hour lunch full of fun conversation and as much depletion of the local livestock as you might expect from the concluding banquet in an Asterix comic ensued. And a friendly local dog hanging around outside the restaurant became the surprised beneficiary of a napkin full of leftover scraps of meat.

We then drove right back to Chennai with a quick coffee break past the Nemmili toll.

Hey guys an update on the 26th Drive. There are a few of us who are free this Sunday, the 26th and we're planning on driving to Arcot for an afternoon Biriyani lunch. Those of y'all from Chennai/Bangalore Who'd like to make it, please RSVP by replying to this post.

There will be another drive plan tentatively around that time with those bhpians that are not free/unable to make it this Sunday.
