Are you talking about the route via NH17 and Poladpur to Mahabaleshwar? Last year it was a nightmare (at least till the point up to Pratapgadh fort).

It definitely takes less than 4 hours MUM-PNQ - Mahabaleshwar if you leave around 6:30 in the morning.

I Drove to M'shwar last month, went via NH-17 Mumbai-Panvel-Mahad-Poladpur-M'shwar-Panchangani-Wai-Pune-Lonavala-Mumbai

NH-17 was very nice, though it is not a multi-lane road. It would be enjoyable in a monsoon. Poladpur to M'hwar was a bad patch, for the initial strip will u reach the ghat roads. Else everything was fine.

Mumbai-Pune-M'war is a better idea, because u can speed up the Super Expressway and then drive down the NH4-lane from Pune to Wai, and take the short strip to Wai on the lane-less road, till M'war. The scenery is best on the panchangani strip.

Guys have fun!

(Alibag roads are not too good, it is just a road)
