WTPT happens every weekend silently for the uninitiated!

Nothing is too early if you are game for a DRAG, my friend is waiting in his custom avatar!

You could get the home minister too. Then the fun in cheating is missing eh?

The fact about Pondy is that it has good waterholes!

How about starting a new thread? John, Biju, Nitrous hear me?

I like the idea of Gingee fort - have many times driven via the place, but never stopped to check it out.

Yeah, WDI was one good place for meets. Pity it is not available anymore. Maybe the C-tbhp organiser John will do the honours.

Another nice idea. Are you mentioning the road leading to Tada ? Tada is a good place - some 90kms from Chennai - only thing is you need to take your food & drinks. Good for trekking and even offroading (for the Jeepers and Safari guys) - we once tried crossing the stream in a Conty and got stuck midway.

The drive to Tada IMO is boring, infact very boring. And there is nothing great in Tada.

How about Yelagiri? Or Coney Falls? Or even Tirupati. the uphill and downhill ghat sections are pretty challenging and fun!

Where is Coney falls and how far from Chennai and which route ? That is a place I have heard of, but never ever been to. Yelagiri also is a good drive.

Tirupati is a FANTASTIC hillclimb moreso since there are two different routes for going up and coming down.
Buttt , the road TO the hill is BAD with invisible potholes. The last time I was driving on it, I blew a tyre. And that was with a 175/70/R13.

Not if you take the GQ . Agreed its a round about . May be 30 -40 kms but atleast worth the cost of a new tyre.

Talking about Tirupati, apart from the temple, there are many other places to visit close by. Another great place is Horsely Hills. Some place that you go and relax. Nothing interesting near by. So,all the more reason to go and settle down in someplace. I think Horsley Hills should be about 150kms from Chennai.

For Tirupathi, the route worth taking is via Kalahasti. Go down till Tada on the NH5, then turn left at the junction. The roads from there on till Tirupathi were biker heaven! I dont know how much fun it can be in a car though :P (just kidding!!!)

The ride upto Horsley Hills is also fantastic, and Horsley is less of a tourist destination for most people, so it makes it a quiter and nicer place to relax. It's got nothing but an APTDC resort there, and has an elephant reserve nearby (which I have not visited yet).

Please note Tirupathi is crowded during the weekends hence the traffic on the ghats would be bad enough to do serious dragging between the Suzukis and the Hyundais, not that am going to do it. Also the pain of getting your vehicle security cleared at Alipiri will add to the pain. Actually I feel one could take the Periyapalayam - Oothukottai - Puttur - Tirupathi route as well, roads are great upto Puthur Byepass. When I last went the byepass was sad dunno about the current state. For Horsley Hills the best route would be to go via Chittor, Palamaner

Wow, if you guys are talking OTR meaninf off road, then we will have to restrict the trip to somewhere closer as the Jeeps are not fast vehicles. Ofcourse they may beat the slower cars and drivers..aaaarrrgh..Just cant resist that, can I

But we could seriously consider the Horse Hills. What say guys!

let everyone decide. Because a one day trip to Horsely Hilly and back is 500kms & lets see!! If everyone is in to go, I count me in too.
