Hello, need some urgent support. I am in the middle of the trip and found out an issue with my brake pedal. I am in Chennai currently and scheduled to leave for Bangalore on Sunday.

I observed that the brake pedal is making a hissing noise when depressed. I feel some kind of air is being released while braking. There is some sort of leak, I am taking it to the service center to have it assessed. Could it be a master cylinder or a vacuum unit issue or are we looking at any other problem. I don't see any issues while braking to slow down or stop the vehicle.

Also I noticed that my brake lights are staying on and doesn't go off when I take my foot of the brakes. I presume it could be some fuse or some wiring issue. I will get that checked too.

Since I am driving on the highway, am more concerned about the brakes. Let me know if someone has faced similar issue.

Air leak somewhere - brake booster, master cylinder, vacuum line .. sure, get it checked ASAP. Even a local garage will do the trick if there isn't any service centre near you, Mahindra parts are easily available over the counter and this is a standard repair.

There is a small rubber stopper below the brake pedal (image below), which might have worn out. That is usually the reason for brake light staying on. Once that is replaced, this issue will be fixed.

Thanks, this was the precise issue. Unfortunately being a old model, I couldn't get the spare as I had checked with a couple of service centers. I finally landed up at Mahindra ASS at Thoraipakkam (Behind Sangeetha hotel) and they did a jugaad with the bonet rod holder and fixed it temporarily for me. I will be placing the order for the rubber bush as well as the rod holder and get it changed once again.

Hi Scorpions ,

I am looking for an aftermarket airfiler for my Scorpio 2019 S11 4WD - BS4. (2.2lt and 140bhp)
The size is 36*17 cm. However, BMC and K&N do not have this specific size.
Any other brand that I can go for where this size is available? Any reference is much appreciated.

Eh, Scorpio moved to paper filters from the old oiled foam??? News to me.

Anyway at least Zip and Purolator have this kind of filter as well, likewise they also make the old style foam filters,

Should be available in other brands as well but these two are widely available

Thanks for the reply.
ZIP filters are available but K&N and BMC are class apart. Not getting the size in these brands. Looking for a lifetime washable filter similar to these 2 brands.

I was driving this morning in peak Bangalore traffic. Out of the blue, I noticed that the engine temperature was going up and peaked with the lights blinking. I was in the middle of traffic and took some time to get to the workplace parking.

After parking, I noticed that too much steam was coming out, not sure about the issue, I noticed that the auxilary coolant tank was nearly empty. I am yet to check the radiator.

I have now parked it in a open space at work and waiting for it to cool down. I will check the radiator once it has cooled enough.

I think this is a radiator issue, let me know if you find something else that is standing out. I am checking with my mechanic in parallel too

Thanks!

How long since you changed (not topped up, drained out and refilled) your coolant? After that, scan the car and you'll figure out where the issue is, if degraded coolant quality isn't the issue.

About 4 months back, I drained and cleaned the radiator and filled with new coolant. I generally check the levels and top up. Waiting for the mech to arrive. will keep posted

Which coolant? Mahindra premix or some green / red coolant concentrate mixed with water? If water then did you use distilled, or tap or bisleri water?

And was the precise quantity filled? Over filling coolant or too dilute a coolant mix from concentrate can lead to the coolant boiling over at heat and overfilling after sustained heavy use of the vehicle in hot conditions.

I got it changed in a Shell Petrol station. I don't remember the brand, but had used the one recommended by Manhindra. I did not overfill, it was filled to the right level. It was working fine for the last 4 months or so.

I just checked, the coolant levels have gone down. I presume there is some leak that needs to be addressed. Maybe, since the age of the vehicle is nearing 15 years, I presume the hoses and connectors must have gotten old. I need to check and make changes as required. I have already been told by my mech that the radiator has gone weak and needs replacement, since my running is low, I had kind of continued with the same radiator.

Let me check

Regards,
Diwakar

Update to my last post

I checked the coolant level. While checking, I had noticed significant salt type deposits across all the hose connectors. I filled it with water for the timebeing and drove to the service center. On inspection, I was told that the complete hose assembly requires change as all the rubber has aged / wornout. Potentially one of the reasons why there was a leak in the first place.

Will be taking it to a service center to have it addressed soon.

I have a question. My mechanic mentioned the radiator is due for a change, there is no leak or any visible malfunction for me. Is there a way to have it checked properly?

Radiator shops are there in all cities , these are specialists in radiators but they may probably ask you to replace it since most cars in the last few decades are using a very thin type radiators that are meant to be replaced rather than repaired, should cost you about 5K aftermarket, make sure to use OEM radiator caps.
