I am thinking logically, and also going by the basic laws of physics. If the existing laws/practices are not taking that into account, that should change with the times, as well. We all should be progressive.

It can be seen as arguing, by some, but my intentions are to encourage people to have functioning brake lights, which can save lives, as I already said.

This is not a comment on the OP but in general. The favorite Indian style of driving. Tailgating!! :Frustrati

I absolutely agree with this assessment. What do I do to discourage tailgaters in the city or highway? Lightly tap on the brake pedal a few times so the brake lights comes on and attracts the tailgater's attention and hopefully gets the fool (wish to use a stronger word here but won't in deference to the board) to back off. If that doesn't work I gently slow the car down and pull to the side so he gets a chance to overtake.

As for not having functional tail & brake lights I believe those are as essential as having good headlights. There's no excuse IMO.

I am hearing a faint tak-tak sound from the steering wheel at crawling speeds. At slightly good speeds also, there is no noise at all and it works just fine.
The noise is heard even with slightest turn of the steering wheel while parking the car or reversing out of garage.

There have been clicking noises from the steering column reported quite a lot, for these cars. I am not aware of any fix for our cars. People have been told by the service centers that it is okay to drive with that. The steering column costs upwards of Rs. 70,000, and I am not sure if any body has attempted a repair on this.

I absolutely agree with this assessment.

Tailgating is the worst, and that is just one of the annoying driving habits I see on the road pretty much every day.

The other day, the car ahead of my car was tailgating another car. The car most ahead braked hard, and almost got rear ended by the tailgater. I was driving at a good distance from the tailgater, but being on a highway I was driving at highway speeds of about 80 kmph. I had to brake well but not hard, and my car came to a halt.

However, the car behind me was not able to stop easily and almost rear ended my car. It was scary. Anyhow, the poor guy slammed hard on the brakes as soon after seeing me brake, going by what I saw in my car's rear view mirror. He was driving all fine, maintaining a very safe distance behind my car, and yet he almost rear ended my car, just because a car, two cars ahead of mine, had negligently applied brakes at highway speeds. Moreover, had I not had functioning brake lights, I would have been rear ended for sure, due to lesser time and distance available to the car behind my car.

It all comes down to keeping yourself and also other road users safe, at the end of the day. I want to encourange everybody to do that.

I have a problem on my GT TDI. After few mins of driving, the AC turns off by itself. After waiting for 5-10 mins, it starts working again. The other way is to switch off and switch on the car.

Any idea what could be the problem. Since it happens after few mins, I want to ensure I have all the information at hand before I leave it at the service center.

Can someone put me in touch with the higher ups in VW mumbai or india? My polo is under extended warranty and the AC coupler has conked off, however the service advisor is denying warranty saying that the part is rusted. Here's an excerpt of the mail he sent me:

Could you please post the extended warranty coverage sheet?

I purchased the extended warranty this Feb from VW prabhadevi and all they gave me was a certificate which doesnt state parts covered/terms etc.

Thanks

This was tricky, but I believe we are looking for the oil shaft seal for MQ250 gearbox. The Audi A1 (glorified Polo, or beefed up Polo, whatever it is) page shows the part number as 02J 409 189 E.

I am not 100% sure if this is what you should get. Please double check, at the service center, if all else fails.

Hey thanks. Yup I am looking for the shaft oil seal for the MQ250 gearbox. I re-read my post and realised how little info it had to understand what I needed.

But based on the part number you provided I did a little digging and found confirmation in the differential part listing for the MQ250 gearbox. I'll double check this with the service center as well.

Dear Friends and Seniors,

Last night I had the first experience of VW Roadside Assistance for my Polo 1.5 TDI HL, bought in Nov 2016, clocking 26k kms, and due for second service in a matter of month or so. While leaving from my doctor's clinic, I inserted the key in slot and went ahead with ignition as usual. To my surprise, the ignition just went dead with a tick tick tick sound. Anymore key rotations didn't help at all, and even the console lights went off.
VW RSA arrived within 45 minutes as promised, and on usual diagnosis, went ahead with jump starting the car. The RSA person also did a dipstick check for engine oil (I don't understand why!) and showed that oil level has gone below the dipstick's minimum mark. However, till then and even after the jump start, I haven't seen the dash warning light for engine oil.
My queries are:

1) Is it normal for battery to go bad within such short time (I can say I never leave/park car with ignition turned on/ headlights turned on).

2) What can be the reason behind extremely low engine oil level (beyond dipstick level) and still not getting an engine oil warning light. Am I missing something here.

Your kind responses and suggestions will be highly useful before I send the car to workshop for service.

Thanks in advance!

You are missing something very important, and it is common misunderstanding. On our cars, the oil warning light indicates oil pressure, and not level. This is, traditionally, what it has always done.

On more sophisticated cars, there may be oil-level indicators, but, for us, our indicator is still the dipstick.

And TDIs do seem to get through some oil between services. Checked mine a few weeks ago when refilling the screen wash, and has horrified to find it at the bottom of the stick .

Thanks a lot sir for this useful information which, honestly, never occurred to me.

VW A.S.S. has mentioned to replace the battery, at around 9k (something which is available at around 5k in the market). Thinking about taking the battery guy to service station for replacing the battery.lol:

What I always believed is that when the oil level gets low, the pressure reduces making the lamp glow on dash. In the case what you say, how is the low pressure light triggered? Is it when oil pump fails?

I'll leave this for one of our engineers to answer properly, but here's my effort.

No, the oil pressure does not go down as the level reduces. The sump is only a reservoir. The pump and oil circulation system is responsible for maintaining the pressure.

This remains true until there is no, or so little, oil in the sump that the pump can no longer take it in. Then, with no oil to pump, pressure is lost. In this case, one has an instantly disastrous situation for the engine.

Otherwise, low oil pressure could be caused by any problem with the pump or circulation hardware. Seeing the oil warning light when driving means stop immediately and get the car towed.
