No, I would never lug my engine.

On highways, it's typically at 2.5k RPM, unless I am at my top speeds when it's at 3k

Same here. The TDCi in Figo develops it's peak torque @ 2000 rpm (according to the specification sheet) and you can feel it too. You can feel the eagerness of the engine when the tacho needle crosses over the 2000 rpm marker. 2nd and 3rd gear and the rpm hovering over the 2000 mark is the sweet spot for me.
For the Santro, there is no tacho and I have to rely on the music from the engine. (Peak torque of 9.8Kgm @ 3000 rpm) So, it should be around 3000 I guess.

Re: What's your sweet spot? (RPM)

Car - Swift ZXi
Sweet spot - 2500 rpm and above. 3rd gear generally works best. Haven't gone beyond 4800 rpm.
Sedate driving - 1800-2000 rpm

Car - Corolla Altis
Any gear, any rpm is fine. The car pulls very well. 15kph in 3rd is also do-able at times.
Sweet spot - 2500 rpm and above. Haven't revved beyond 4400 rpm.
Sedate driving - 1500-1800 rpm

Re: What's your sweet spot? (RPM)

well, this is added beep, beep research.
About the 3rd gear.
most fun gear to be in, it seems.
i think its that perception of speed and the "delta" of speed that is most apparent in 3rd, no?

what i am trying to put in words, wht i have in my mind, is that the average speed in 3rd, and sudden change in speed in 3rd in the sweet spot is the one felt most.
in 1st and 2nd, you arent in high enough speed.
in 4th and higher, the delta(math one.ie,change) in speed isnt all that perceptible.
oh wait, when did i start rambling??

Also the belief that you still have the 4th gear to play with makes acceleration in 3rd even more sweeter.

Re: What's your sweet spot? (RPM)

Car: Manza QJT
ODO: 6782.

Sedate Driving :- 1600 ~ 1800. Change gears only when it drops to 1200 or even less than 1000.

(DIS is showing a kmpl of 21.2 AVG. Actual differenc is .85kmpl from the Tank full to tank full method.
Fuel indicator reached only half now. Was particular not to do any agressive driving since the last tank full to check the actual city driving mileage w/o AC in the sedate driving mode. Hope its possible till I finish another half tank of fuel left.)

Sweet spot/ range :- 1900 ~2200. It just zooms in any gear in this range. Feel the maximum torque for disposal here.

Aggressive driving:- Tried only once on a highway to over take. Touched 4000. But it was very harsh. Just after completion of 5k kms.

Need to redline it. Waiting for 10k kms completiong to see this happen.

Re: What's your sweet spot? (RPM)

Figo Petrol-

Sedate driving: Never noticed the sweet spot. I guess it falls in the 1800-2400 range

Redline driving:
1st gear - Sweet spot - cannot notice, redlines at around 6K
2nd gear - Sweet spot - 3K-4.5K after which it feels a little strained, redlines a little less than 6K (Am afraid to push it further as it feels as though something is going to give way)
3rd gear - Sweet spot - 3.5K - 4K after which the acceleration overwhelms my nerves and I shift to 4th. Never tried to redline in 3rd though
4th gear - This is of not much use either in cities or highways.
5th gear - sweet spot - 60Km to 110 Km range (After 2nd service, i can fell that extra rush which wasn't there before) After this, it takes a little longer to reach 140. (Never tried beyond 140 though)

Re: What's your sweet spot? (RPM)

Civic (07)

Best place to be is 4000-6000RPM. The cars takes time to reach 4k, then rips to 7k in a flash. Ahhhh.

Which gear? 1st. Ok, sometimes 2nd.

What about other gears?
Relatively similar behavior. The needle takes time to reach 4k, then the flash occurs. However I have not yet redlined in 4th and 5th gear, because usually by that time, the road is over.

Re: What's your sweet spot? (RPM)

Swift Diesel -

Sedate City Driving - Anything Below 2000 rpm and a light accelerator, she ll respond with a mild speed increase. Perfect for city Driving

Highway Drives - 3rd gear is a murder weapon and will make the car reach 90 kmph in a jiffy after which 4th and 5th take over the pull till 150 after which things slow down a bit.

Sweet Spot for fun driving 2000 to around 3500 after which its pointless.

80 kmph comes in 5th gear at 2000 rpm so for highway drives its best to maintain 80 + for being in the meat of the powerband.

Just curious.
Any perceptible difference?
My problem is I don't remember life before the conical

but I do remember things used to be quieter

Maruti Suzuki Swift Diesel -2000-3500 Rpm is Simply a blast to drive.
My Alto LXi doesn't have a Tacho but still I love to rev it to the max in 2nd Gear to hear the roar from its engine.

Car - Polo 1.2 TDI, anytime I can get 200 mtrs of open roads ( very rarely ) 3rd gear above 1800 rpm. Pulls very well , is relatively smooth and seems to have a lot of power on offer.

2nd:2500 - 3000
3rd:2500 - 3000
4th: 2500 - 3000
5th: 2500 - 3000
6th: 2500

Eco/sedate mode:
1st:1800
2nd:1800
3rd:1800
4th:1800
5th: 1800
6th: 1800 - 2000

Yeti's sweet spot is apparently, from 1500 to 3000.

Most bang in this spot is in 3rd and 4th gear.
