Bought an 11 month old *NEW* Chevy Beat. Anything to look out for?

Just bought a new Beat that was booked 2 days back..
everything went well at the dealers end except for the fact that the manufacturing date is october 2010.
i did inquire about VIN yesterday but they couldn't get it as the car was send for washing and accessories addition

i did clarify with the dealer who said that he will look into the matter.
also called up the GM customer care and was told to get it replaced if not satisfied.they did try to talk me out saying there is no difference between the old and new cars!!
but something keeps pricking me about the this matter..

i have the car with me,is there any cautions i have to take about it?

Re: Bought 11 month old NEW car !!

IMO you made a mistake by taking delivery of the car with you. Once you noticed that the car was manufactured way back in Oct 2010, you should have stayed away from the car and threatened to cancel the booking. Anyways, I don't think it is possible to try and haggle with the dealer/company now that you have the car with you. BTW, how is the car behaving? Are you observing any abnormalities?

Re: Bought 11 month old NEW car !!

Sad to see that a T-BHPian has fallen to the tricks of the car dealer by buying a old car.
Now that the car has been registered and you have started using it, there is nothing much you can do about it.
As a compromise and for reassurance, please try to negotiate for an extended warranty for the complete car (no exclusions) at least for 1 more year.
I don't want to image the reasons why the car was not sold all these days.

nothing wrong in that, except that you should have been careful to check the VIN before you paid for the car.

now what?

hassle the dealer to get maximum out of them in terms of free bees!
make sure the warranty stands for the said kms and years.
warranty is always from the date of sale.

Re: Bought 11 month old NEW car !!

the dealer has agreed to exchange the car for new one once the date of manufacture has been confirmed from their side..
also called up the customer care and said even if the car is at home, just return to the dealer and ask for replacement.

You should have used the Team-BHP PDI Checklist!

Either ways, what's done is done. As they are willing to replace the car, jump at the opportunity before they change their mind. Please go over and complete the replacement formalities tomorrow morning itself.

Like GTO said, try and replace the car ASAP; call me a pessimist but I see that as a bleak chance as the car has already been registered.
Keep your cool tomorrow and extract at least a free extended warranty ( bare minimum).

OT - Rush - when do we get the swift review. Looks like have you been keeping busy (beside tBHP).

It is a little irresponsible of GM to sell such a car. But then you are mainly at fault.

I dont think any company would take back a car after selling. But if they do it is indeed noble of them. That is something even Maruti or Hyundai would not do.

Do keep us posted. And do not log any KMs in that car.

Re: Bought an 11 month old *NEW* Chevy Beat. Anything to look out for?

the temporary certificate of registration shows manufactured in march 2011 and on vehicles data sheet by RTO it shows august 2011..

it was 147 kms on the odo when i received it and ran just 2 kms to home!!

as a matter of fact, mine is not only the vehicle that had this problem,i saw 2 other beat petrols with similar manufacturing dates and ready !!im sure il be the only one who realized the mistake here!!

Please get the VIN from the RC and post it here for clear understanding of the correct date of manufacture. You can check with Wildon about this too.
On the other hand if the Manufacturer/Dealer is offering to change the car with a new one, jump at the opportunity and go for it making sure that this time you completely follow the PDI list and the subsequent value additions by fellow members.
Best of luck and keep us posted.

Re: Bought an 11 month old *NEW* Chevy Beat. Anything to look out for?

If he is giving you an exchange, which itself is very rare and i think you are lucky, you should jump at this opportunity. I am little confused on the date of manufacturing on the Temp Number plate, can these two dates be different?

If that's more recent he might want to wriggle out of the situation by saying that's the manufacturing date (As he has not confirmed the manufacturing date from his side yet).

Re: Bought an 11 month old *NEW* Chevy Beat. Anything to look out for?

news update..the rare of the rare happened..

got a july 2011 car which was the latest in the lot that came in today.
coincidentally (luckily) was white too!!
the car i got before was taken back and seems will be used for test drive at one of the showrooms!!!(dont know truth about it)
and weirdly, they gave me extra free accessories (guess they dint want me to point the truth to other beat owners from the dealership)

all this was done by complains to GM helpline, dealership managers and GM state complaint cell..and did have to pay for TP registration twice!!

will be putting the accessories and getting the permanent registration tomorrow.

There are only 12 months in a year and 2010 is no exception
