I had given this feed back to M&M 1.5 years back after a TD. The rotating steering rod touching the foot was pretty irritating and distracting.:Frustrati

hey FOlks, I have finally taken the bold step and booked W8 FWD clap:. Hoping that the 2015 models dont have as many niggles as the earlier ones. Fingers crossed.

I have the 2014 model W8. Done 20500kms so far. No niggles so far..

thanks undead. You feedback is reassuring. Also in general seems like 2014 onwards, lot of items are resolved. I am ready for some minor issues. In all the cars that i tested in sub 15 lac range, XUV was the only one that really struck a cord and excited me. This is despite me being an anti-SUV by opinion lol:. Given the features, space, power, feel of the car nothing comes close. Cars like corolla, jetta, elantra seem so over priced. I never intended to spend 17lacs for a car, again a mental block. But gradually went from W6 to W8 given the no of extra safety features.

After driving a W8 for 4 months / 5000km, I must say I got used to the feeling of a mouse running near my left foot! Thats how scary it was, on Day 1. Is this the same story with other SUVs? Or, is this a well-designed Cheetah feature?

This "feature" is certainly not a part of the following SUV's that I have had the chance to drive, but it is definitely an irritant which M&M should do something about.

1) When the AC/Climate control is set to the "take-air-from-outside" setting instead of recirculate, the smells from outside creep into the cabin. Is this a problem with the air filters? (Note, even in my Vento there is a similar problem). Or is it that our air has become so polluted that air filters just don't work anymore.

2) Windshield washer motor has conked off within 1.5 months

Any idea where I can get an all black side step fitted? The ones I've seen on other XUVs/Scorpios are aluminum and don't look that good (personal opinion).

1. Some amount of smell from outside is bound to creep in if the setting is on "taking air from outside"

2. You can ask for the replacement of the washer motor under warranty. Being an electrical part it can conk off. In my Scorpio the rear one lasted 5.5 yrs. and the front one 6.5 yrs.

I own a 2013 April XUV W6. Just completed 20500 Kms this month. I use the XUV primarily as my daily runabout in Bangalore with an odd long distance run about 600 Kms every quarter or so. The vehicle has been a wonderful driver experience for me mostly, apart from a disturbing issue which has now struck me twice over.

I just had my front brake pads changed the second time today (Yes, a second time in 20K Kms). The first time i changed it was at 8500 KMS. The problem begins with a very annoying squeaking noise from the front left brakes. The noise gets noticeably louder with time and gets on a lot of nerves (including my neighbours every time I arrive home). I have not, on both occasions noticed any perceptible deterioration in the braking itself. I have reported this to the ASS (Sireesh Auto) but the prognosis is always the same. The Front brake pads are worn out and a change is warranted. I have asked for the entire brake assembly/callipers and everything else to be examined to identify the root cause, but on both occasions they point to a worn out brake pad. With much reluctance I had to give in considering my upcoming sojourn to Kerala next week.

Its cost me about Rs.4900/- odd both times. I feel a little let down as common-sensically I cannot imagine a brake-pad wearing out every 10k Kms. The service centre did elude to driving styles and brake-pad longevity being directly co-relational, but I did let them know that i am no mad max and more realistically, I drive in Bangalore (Read Top Speeds 15kmph)

Has anyone else had the problem of "the acutely wearing brake pads" in their XUV’s? What is the average life of a Brake Pad I should be expecting? Are the folks at the ASS missing the wood for the tree? Any pointers will be helpful.

Post this rather unhappy experience, Iv been using the brakes rather judiciously stupid: and most of you will agree that’s not a good thing.

City driving does wear out the brake pads faster because of more frequent use as compared to highway cruising. Having said that, 10K kms is just too less for brake pads to wear out. As you are aware, the front brake pads have a wear sensor which gives a notification when those brake pads are worn out and beyond useful life.

Since you paid for the new brake-pads, I am assuming they would have returned the old pieces to you. Did you inspect those old brake pieces and compare them to the new pieces to verify the claim of the service center? Also there is no reason for the brakes to groan even when the brake-pads are worn out. So there is definitely something that we are missing.
I would suggest, escalate to Customer Care formally and ask for why the life of the brake pads is so low. Attach pics of old pieces if available.

Can the noise be due to rusted disks ? Mine were rusted within the first 5 k kms and I got them replaced.
Also, SDP, you mention that there are sensors for the front bake discs. Can you please let us know how we we would be notified ? through dashboard indicators ?

When I slightly depress my break pads, there is a slight squeaking noise but nothing that would disturb the neighbors.

The brake pads just look fine -does not look like it needed replacement

You get a proper "Front brakepads worn out" alert message in the infotainment screen.

From the angle of the pics, very difficult to figure out how thin the brake-pads had become.

That yellow wire and the small glass-like part at the end is the brake-pad wear sensor. When the brake pads get worn out and the thickness becomes so low that the glass-like part breaks and completes a circuit, the alert message gets triggered. So please check how much thickness is still left on the pads by looking at them from the side and comparing with the sensor's height.

Loud groaning noise from brake-pads was a very common problem in the initial batches. Mahindra did a lot of RnD and there were as many as 5 diff designs of brake pads that were tried. The problem was with one specific design from Bosch brakepads. At that time people who complained (including me) got the Bosch ones replaced with Galfer ones and all brake groan vanished like magic after that.
