Thanks for your inputs, guys. An update:

- Start/Stop function: They've managed to fix after hours and changed my steering wheel (some issue with that?!). But since they didn't have the beige one, they've given me a temporary black one. That's a sucker for a new car, but its alright.

- Alignment: Fixed and its a W8 (raj_5004). Shame that they didn't do that before delivery.

Naveen - I got it fixed at the same place. Thanks!

Overall am a little disappointed, but if things fall in place after all this, I'll be mighty pleased. Fingers crossed.

P.S. - I absolutely love the drive! :)

...

They changed the steering-wheel while fixing the start-stop function? Can't imagine how those two could be related.

Monaro, can you and/or any experts throw some light around this?

Wanted inputs from fellow XUVians .Is anyone else facing these issues ?

1) Last couple of days , Im getting a grinding noise, only when braking at slow speeds, the typical Blore bumper-to bumper rides .

2) The front passenger door has a unique issue. If the passenger unlocks the door before the driver does it, the door does not open. One needs to get down , then try to lock-unlock using the remote , and open from the outside. I took it to ASC for testing, but it worked fine on that day.

3) I have a triangular dark spot from the RHS head light. As in pic. Not sure if an led is blocking the throw. RM is not able to figure this either.

Answers:
1. There are several reasons over this:
a. If the vehicle is washed and water is sprayed into the disc brake pads.
b. If the disc has an oxide formation.
c. If the vehicle is stored for a long period.
d. Sand particles splashed due to the rain/washing.
2. This is a race-around condition, if the passenger opens the lock and at the same time the driver operates centrally, the relay opens but latch strucks. You need to revert the whole process. In this case the driver side lock can be closed and re-opened again, that releases the relay latch.
3. There are headlight individual throw adjustments for this. Your service advisor can adjust the throw. But this is seen in most of the vehicles.

Looks like someone has rightly nailed the right formula for doing business with Indian Customer !! First you sell (SALES) him a 12L Premium SUV, and then let him run to the After-Sales (SERVICE) guys for the rest of his life OR till he dumps the vehicle finally !! Make money from both Sales and Service !!

Even the KIA which sells CHEAP cars in US doesn't have such issues when they launch a new model !!

Manufacturing companies target a product entry time to compete their counterparts, if they release the product in the market within the time frame, the product will have a long End Of Life in the market with respect to the competetors. This is the belief.
It is up to the customer, to be the first one to test the product in India. But in case of German/Japanese manufacturer, their testing phase is very long ensuring the product is free of bugs.
XUV 5OO may be placed as a Value For Money SUV, I believe Pajero/Montero/VW Toureg/AUDI Q7/VOLVO XC 90 belong to premium category.

Looks like the "Value For Money" means Buy something that has lower initial investment and then spend the rest of the product life spending time and money trying to fix the problems !!

To me Value for Money would be less number of features without compromising on the quality so that I do not have to spend money or time on it later.

No wonder the Japanese and Koreans sell much more than the Indian or European vehicles !!

Looks like you are assuming too much while presenting your point of view. I am driving it since November and last time I visited the service center was for second service 2-3 months back. Don't think that I have spent either time or resources to get any of the problems fixed.

If you haven't encountered the problems, You are one lucky owner !!

Well I counted the number of people who have reported the problems on this thread, which currently has 25 pages .. stopped counting after 10th page and the count stood at 19 owners !! So it's 19 owners with problems in 10 pages and still 15 more pages to go. Let's say that there are 200 XUV onwers on this forum of which 10% people have reported problems !! Well I don't mean any disrespect to M&M or the XUV owners, but the problems reported are high when compared to the 13 - 15L that someone spends on this vehicle !! The problem don't look straight forward either. So I don't see any Value for the 13L+ money spent on a beautiful looking automobile which seem to have lot of problems !!

One thing I noticed in my XUV is about the brake pedal travel length. I think this is what creating a lot of negative buzz about brake feel in the market.

Unlike many other cars, when you press the brake pedal, it travels down for more than an inch without any actual stopping action from brake. Once it reaches the place from where it will actually apply the brake, the stopping is very powerful. But by then the vehicle lost approx. 500 milliseconds after the driver started reacting to the situation. Considering a panic situation, those few milliseconds are very precious to avoid an accident. Another aspect of this is that since there is no response for the initial few milliseconds (until the pedal reached the activation point), there is high chance that driver may slam the brakes harder and end up using more stopping force than actually required.

Now we can always argue that this is how the brakes are designed in XUV and one will get used to using it. But the fact is, even after one got used to these brakes, human reaction time cannot be improved over a period of time, we will still be losing out that precious moments to avoid an accident. I sincerely hope M&M will be bold enough to accept this as an improvement area and fix it in existing cars as well as in production to make sure their customer's families and the other road users are safe.

Is the brake pedal free play not adjustable? I m pretty sure it must be.

Hey i just got my White XUV W8 delivered and i must say they have grown up on a lot of stuff.I did buy the scorpio when they released it initally and now the xuv i see some good work and really some bits which i haven't noticed on suv's like fortuner and endavour.the interior quality is not up to the mark but they have improved from the past.I like they way it handles and drives.i should say its value for money.

Issues:

i have faced few issues with the infotainment system like the "Blower display comes on intermittently while I am driving" , Top USB Not working and there is a slight hiss or noise from the speakers when i play music from CD or USB , i do not get it when i play audio via Bluetooth. any one faced that ?

the clutch needs to be depressed a lot and the first and second gear is a little hard to engage or may be i need to get used to mahindra as i have been a lot on these small cars these days.

Overall i am quite happy except for the small niggles of infotainment stuff.

I am not sure. AFAIK, it is self adjusting system and there is no play adjust in it. Need to call the RM and confirm this one.

Another issue(?) i noticed is, when the headlight setting is in Auto mode the high beam doesnt work. Is this the way how it should be?

Don't use the top USB. It's exclusively for mapmyindia updates only. The blower problem : are you using Auto Mode in AC ?

It's only for low beam as per the specs.

Some more issues of my XUV.

Please help me if you know solution of any

1. Reverse horn supposed to be per-installed - i read somewhere that there is pre installed back horn. is it true?
(i know its very irritating, i will disable myself)

2. Down shift 1 and 2 are very hard, when vehicle is moving. - Still this issue is not resolved.

3. Steering becomes quite hard - i feel became quite hard in last 3 months.

4. Dust in headlamp - In night i clearly see dust particle inside headlamp.

5. Rust on disc - there is bit of rust on all 4 disc.

6. Seat belt warning buzzer - as per manual if driver wont wear seat belt it will buzzer for 30 sec but it wont.

7. Brakes too weak

8. Fuel economy is just 9

9. Defogger upper 2 lines - few days back i used rare defogger, as there was mist inside the car because of rain. So, what i noticed above 2 lines of defogger was not working. So just wanted to know, upper 2 wires are of radio antenna or there is a fault in defogger.

10. sound from rear left seat belt - Rear left seat belts hits B-piller/door and it gives very irritating sound. If any of you know the solution, please help me its very irritating.

11. Dust/Smell comes inside recirculation mode - Sometime i feel outside dust and smell, even when AC is on recirculation mode.

12. Auto AC switch doesn't goes off - Auto switch works when i have to switch it on, but pressing again wont switch it off. If i will rotate airflow/temp dial it becomes off.

13 rattling sound from center console.

I haven't faced this issue. But read somewhere in previous pages about some Steering column liquid drying up etc.. Check it out.

Seeing this for the first time. Does the dust block the headlight throw?

Known issue. Don't know if this impacts the performance. Generally the brake issues are still open for some of the owners.. Some lucky ones don't have any brake issues

I haven't seen this in my car. May be the software needs an update?

Depends. For bangalore city driving, I get around 11 to 12. Highways, I clocked 18+. However, due to the software upgrades, the system will not show any mileage above 15 these days.. But 9 seems very low. Are you used to driving with half clutch?

Let me know if you find a solution. It's really irritating. I have wrapped up my belt knob with a small piece of cloth. (End up removing the cloth every time someone sits in second row..)

I thought only I faced this issue. Looks like I have company now. I have given my car for service today with this as one of the issues. Will post.

Rattling sound? Can you elaborate? Are you talking about the fan noise from the center console or some rattling noise such as the ones you would get from the doors?

Given my car today for servicing for the following problems..

1. I had posted about the rear wheels looking like \ / instead of | |.. Service folks had earlier tweaked the suspension unit to fix the look. However, the rear tyres' outer most layer is completely worn off. I have asked for a replacement of tyres.

2. Brakes - The RM says the redesigned pads/disks didn't resolve the noise/effectiveness issue yet. Guess they won't provide any solution today.

3. Outside air/smell creeping into the cabin

4. Rear suspension is very rough after the tweaking done by the service folks for my problem #1 above. Hoping to get new set of suspension (or) some adjustments.. RM says that he would fix the suspension and get another round of alignment done.

All my other old issues are closed. I don't expect #2 to be resolved. Hopefully the other issues will get resolved today :-) Once the above issues are resolved, I am planning to get some nice ICE done. Did anyone face issues after ICE'ing their XUV?
