Hello, Yes its covered under extended warranty as well, And trust me extended warranty specially for the XUV is highly recommended.

Thanks Tanveer, I am currently on the extended warranty and my SA told me that Gear Knobs are not covered under extended warranty. Thanks for the update and I shall surely get this done this time.

Hello, That is really not true, If your SA is not willing to do it, Contact Mahindra customer care and you can also visit another service center. I got mine replaced right after my 3 years of standard warranty got over.

There are lot of parameters that affect if they will entertain warranty. service centre, RM and regional manager from M&M.
you should try all options before giving up.

in my latest case, one service center/RM was asking for Rs 5000 for few repairs which should ideally be covered under warranty and finally it was done free of cost by other service center/RM. I had to contact regional manager (M&M) few times to escalate.

It is not like they do this on purpose. It is simply lack of application of mind. Or may be most are not paid to do that anyway. So anything that's not clearly spelt out in their SOP immediately gets denied. Till you find that right person who understands the problem at its root and takes it up with the right business case.

The extended warranty is explained in detail by Mahindra and of course they could not have thought about every non mechanical part like gear knob etc. that may also develop some issue. So I am not surprised that an RM had a look at what is covered and then said gear knob is not covered. However, if a knob cracks or looses its paintwork then it is a defective piece and will need to be addressed as such. Just find that right person to take this forward.

I don't know whether gear numbers fading can really be taken up but there have been cases where the knob cracked or completely lost the paint on it and started looking hideous. Such cases definitely merit a warranty coverage in my opinion.

Offcourse its covered under warranty, One of my friend's XUV's gear knob was just about to break in half! The crack had already developed and that too was changed underwarranty, For me the number was faded as well as the small crack had already occurred, They replaced the gearknob to a brandnew one, No questions asked.

Also, A thing that i have noticed after dealing with Mahindra and VW service centre many times is, Sending your car just for a warranty work might not do the trick, For instance when your car goes in for a regular checkup or a service, Mention the warranty work strongly.

Mine has the same problem where the door handles and the gear know both have lost colour, mine is also in its extended warranty now. The handles had lost paint more than a year back now but even after repeated complaints and even writing to Mahindra care they termed this as part of normal wear & tear and thus not replacable under warranty.

Is it a freak one of case that your ASS agreed to change it, I would certainly want to get it done. Also my W8's front seats lower portion leather had discoloured into a slight green way back, again nothing that Mahindra ASS was ready to do.

Wherein, since my car is from the first lot I would have got so many parts replaced under warranty earlier, but somehow their logic of wear and tear makes sense. Can anyone else confirm if this, because if this can be done I am willing to work to raise hell for mahindra until this gets resolved lol:

It should work. Loosing paint here and there is just showing poor quality of parts and should be covered under warranty. I realised that my hand rest (near hand brake) is also loosing paint.

My other car (8 yrs + old) has never had such interior related problems till date so it is definitely case of poor quality.

but I don't really understand their whole logic when it is very easy to just paint it again. why can't they just do it without any fuss:Frustrati

My previous XUV was too from the first lot, Hence we had got the 3rd year warranty, Like i said a lot depends on when do u send the car + Your Service centre + Service Advisor, My friends VW vento's clutch was gone at just 12k and was replaced by VW under,"Goodwill". I had my headlamps replaced too since the led lamps conked off and its not repairable, Changing of the headlamps meant the chrome around it was also lost, I had a talk with the manager at the service center regarding the chrome and they duly applied a pair of new ones under,"Goodwill".

This is what the SA told me. The part actually is not covered under extended warranty and some dealers my get this replaced to a select customer under Goodwill replacements.

I have in the meanwhile emailed Mahindra, and the regional Service Head is in touch in via email, and I am awaiting a revert from him.

Though the MASS - KTC has now assured me of getting it replaced without cost, they said they might still need to check the same.
The SA also notified me of a few scenarios where it could be rejected.
1. A Broken gear knob, which could have happened by poor handling or some other external damage.
2. Faded paint, (Silver Plastic/Fiber Parts) only subject to repainting.
3. Digits faded (Rubber part of the knob in dark Red) not covered under replacement.

But in my case, as there is visible fading, paint loss on both the plastic and the rubber parts of the knob; and since the plastic bit has come off the knob and is now not connected to the rubber part; which should obviously affect the drive once this one completely comes off - most likely due to the inferior quality of the knob and its fitting - SA told me about getting it replaced without cost.

Also, it may also depend on the relationship you have with the dealer, normal wear and tear may not get a replacement. The Gear Knob actually costs around 1K.

In the past few weeks i have done a couple of long runs from Mumbai to Pune and see that the car is still bouncy but the intensity of the bounce has gone down. I would say the setup has made the car softer. The car also feels much more stable at high 3 digit speeds.

I have also made many runs to my factory, for which i have to pass through very very bad roads and must say there is a stark difference in the way the car tackled them. A 4 km part of the road I have to drive through is full of stones (almost like an unpaved road) and to my delight, not even a single jerk gets transferred to me anymore. I can smoothly run over them in speeds upto 40kmph where other cars have to slow down to a snails pace (including cars like fortunes and other XUV's).

Could you please share more updates on your S Tech springs ? How about the tossing of passengers on the middle row while driving on bad pot holes on low speeds..? I am planning to but the S Tech springs soon as Pete's don't have Bilstein for Xuv 500 .

Hey,

As of right now, there is still tossing of the passengers in the middle row but it has become comparatively lesser. The last time i got driven by my driver, i noticed that it was easier to work on my laptop when sitting in the middle row. But the most comfort is till felt by the driver and the front passenger as these springs feel like you are driving a sedan and not a SUV. I have received this comment by many friends as well as car service providers (Wheel Aligner, A/C Servicer, ICE setup specialist and not like it counts but my RM at Mahindra too). If you.

In my honest opinion, it is a worth upgrade if you don't mind the cost of the product and the headache the RM will try to give you blaming everything that goes wrong in the car to the changed springs.

I agree too. Thanks to Kartman, I changed mine too. Not a drastic change from a comfort perspective, but I feel very confident with the new springs. It is tough to explain but there was a funny way the stock springs use to behave when you go over cobblestone kinda surface. With the Tiens, thats no more the case. The springs are firm and give you a sporty feel. When you corner hard, the lateral acceleration cornering force is for sure something that you will love. Am sure its around 0.80 to 0.85g. It corners as flat as possible. These just cost me 34K installed. These along with the Deiseltronic ECU make my beast a fun to drive machine.

It is truly great to drive the car now the true beastly instinct of the XUV is finally out.

About the deiseltronic, can you give me some details about price and performance also where did you get it done.
