One more addition to Baleno-fans club

Hi Guys,

After reading thru' all the posts on this website I decided to buy Baleno Vxi ! Thanks to all of you.

Before seeing the reviews on this website i had just Accent/Honda City/Fiesta on my list not anymore.

1. Mileage : its just been 20 days since i bought this and on one long drive(350 kms) i got 14.2 kms/ltr with 100% AC on highway. Is this supposed to increase after first/second service??

2. Windows donot close completely on the rear-left. A small gap is left where one can put finger nail. Has anyone else faced this problem?? the dealer said it is not a problem??

3. Auto Climate control is amazing. Just this, I would say is worth going for Vxi. Not to mention defogger, adjustable driver seats coming in handy.

4. With 5 people it scraped about 3 speedbreakers. I want to know which part of the car underside gets scraped and should i get it checked for any damage???

5. The headlamps are very poor. I have already posted that query. Hope to hear from the experts soon. If someone has used 'philips vision plus' please respond.

Cheers,
Venkat.

Congrats on the purchase .. Trust me u will never regret the purchase be it for city crusing or even if ur looking for some pure performance out of the car ..

Coming to ur pointers ,

1. Dont worry the mileage will certainly pick up after the first 5000 kms once the engine settles down .. On my 1st highway trip even before the car had clocked 150 kms it gave me a phenominal mileage of 17.xx .. In the city im getting around 15 km/ltr .. Thanks to the torque that virtually begins at idle ..

2. Dont worry about the windows not opening up completely at the back , this is a problem (not actually a problem but its the basic design) with all the balenos .. Actually the rear glass is a bit big and it stops where the glass touches the window mechanism or something .. That explains why it doesnt roll down fully ..

3. Yes the climatic control , seat height adjuster are certainly handy ..

4. Yes bottoming out was a major concern for me too .. Try taking it sideways , should eliminate the chances of hitting the bumps to a great extent .. However this problem is more to do with the pathetic design of bumps we got here in our country where they range from elephant sized to ant sized .. Nothing much one can do about them .. I am still yet to come across one speed breaker where my baleno has bottomed out on in bangalore .. It basically happened to me on my way to mantralaya ..

5. About the headlamps , i think u can upgrade to 100/90 from the company itself , they cost 1200 .. Also the original MGA fogs at 13.5k are damn expensive but trust me they do help a lot even in night driving ..

Thanks McLaren,

Regarding windows: My problem is different, actully when i *close* the rear-left window there is a small gap when i check the windows from outside the car. There is enough space to put in finger nails between the top of the glass and the rubber beading.

Mileage: How much mileage did you get during the initial period i.e before 5000 kms? it would be great if i can get 17 on highway and 13 in city

Lights: I saw quite a few posting that 100/90 will melt the headlights casing !! hence wondering what else to do. For how long have you been using 100/90?

HHmm did u check if the beading is alright ?? Seems weird but not one baleno i have seen till date seems to have this problem .. U might want to check it out with some other showroom or a local mech for that matter ...

Oh !! So u still have no idea how new my baleno is is it ?? Maybe this thread will help .. http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/long-t...-2-days-2.html

Right now 17 on highway and 15 in city is what im getting with the car having clocked 2600 kms in the last 8 days .. But i shift at close to 1500 rpms to 2000 rpms .. Prefer driving that way since the torque overwhelms me time and time again .. Yeah the high revvs are unleashed only on a track ..

Regarding the lights , i still am running on the stocks itself .. Planning to upgrade them in the next week or so .. Spoke to the showroom guys and they say there is no problem with the melting of the casing and such .. Best thing to do would be to get the showroom guys to do the conversion for u , u can blame them later if anything does go wrong ..

@mclaren1885, 15kmpl in the city !! Are you using Shell ? Do you tend to change gears a lot in the city ?
Did you finally get the fog lamps as part of the deal from the dealer ?

Yes shuvc , im using shell .. Not the superunleaded though .. Well i drive mostly in 3rd or 4th in the city and also in 5th like 40 % of the time , never see the need to drive in 2nd actually ... Well try as much as possible not to keep shifting gears or revv high .. All a part of a students budget package u know .. Yes , i did get the fog lamps for free .. Got them installed from the dealer after i came back from mantralaya ..

Thanks Shuvc, I bought a silky-silver.

PS: I used 'shell' for the long drive which gave me 14.2 on highway with 100% ac.

I have had my Vxi for 5000 km. Mileage is about right. It's fantastically frugal for the punch it packs. Your window problem has to be rectified at the dealer. It should close tight. The part that scrapes the speedbump: it's the silencer tail-pipe. Look underneath from the back, you will see a marked twist in the tail-pipe just around rear-wheels, this twist is downwards, and it is this that touches. Nothing can be done about this. Live with it.

A die hard Baleno fan

Hi Guys,

What my experience of owning Baleno for 5.7 yrs says is that the car hitting the bumps will reduce once you upgrade to a better tyres and alloys (I did that and the car responded well) Also the part which generally hits the road is a projection which is more towards the left hand side of the body somewhere in the middle of the car.

Stock headlamp bulbs which are provided in the car are not at all effective. You need to upgrade that.

And lastly "Windows donot close completely on the rear-left. A small gap is left where one can put finger nail. Has anyone else faced this problem?? the dealer said it is not a problem??".... Yes indeed I had faced this problem and it is due to some wrong adjustment which will be rectified at the service station within no time. So nothing to worry.

And congratulations for making a good decision.

hmm .. kolkata traffic must be worse .. am getting around 11.5kmpl (xtrapremium with 50%AC). Actually what hurts FE more is probably the amount of stop start situations than say slow 2nd gear travel. Anyway, these 11-12 kmpl levels are fantastic for me , so am not complaining. I'm trying to kick the habit of shifting too much. Was so used to it with the Indica, plus during the running in period.

So how much discount did you finally get including all the accessories ?

Does the OE fog lamps compensate for the weak headlamps ? I mean if one has the OE fog lamps, is it still necessary to upgrade headlamps ?

@venkatrx .. then you got the exact same car as I ..

Thanks Sumit,

You have driven baleno for 5.7 years !! Whats the mileage you get in city and highway with 100% ac?

How many kms have you done?

Filcord, the silencer-tail-pipe which you mentioned that is getting scraped.....do i need to get it replaced after certain period? or it has no operational/efficiency impact?

Well i got a discount of 93k totally on the LXi .. ..

Yes the OE fogs certainly do compensate for the weak headlamps .. Actually even on my 1st trip to mantralaya without the fogs felt it pretty comfy with the OE headlamps its only bettered since the fogs have been fixed .. Dont feel the need to upgrade and im sure even psycho will vouch for that .. But upgrading in any case just to be safe ..

Hi Venkatrx,

I had driven the car close to 75000 Kms before disposing. We have always used the car with ACs ON. It gave a decent average of 12.2kmpl in city conditions and close to 15 in Highway driving.

Mclaren, how did you manage to get the dealer to give you this kind of a discount...

Here in hyderabad, they are talking about 65-70K of discounts. I wish I could get the dealers to give me abt 90K of discounts.
