Dude the Price is Rs.46032(MRP).Its called the power steering Kit.Its very much possible and the maruti people itself do it.I checked this out on the maruti website where they have quoted the above price.
Get it done if its fits your buget and it will work as good as it would in a alto which comes company fixed with a power steering as the maruti people itself are doing it and most of all its a MGP so no worries.

@passion4cars
@humyum

hey guys now u have got me confused!!! well 10k sounds really tempting but from what humyum says it looks a bit unreal...

@passion:
u sure that was the power steering kit... coz the diff b/w alto LX and LXi is almost 25k... so a custom fitting of PS should actually cost more!!

@ humyum
if i do install it, will it better my car's resale value or not???

it costs a lot more than 10K, it should be around 35-40 k which is not worth it...veyron1 had given u the right choice...sell ur esteem now..it will probably fetch u a lakh, add another 50k (instead of spending 40K on fitting one), u will get a 98 vx, which comes with more than just the power steering. i have been thru all these stages my friend...it is just not worth spending on mods, unless the car is brand new & u will be keeping it for the next 5 years. and let me assure you, u will love the next car u r buying, at least as much as u do this one, if not more...

cheers

Re: Installation of Power steering?

Just bumping up an old thread. My grand-father has a '02 Maruti 800 5-speed and drives around 8-10 kms daily. This car has just had a fresh re-spray and a few niggles were sorted out after we ditched the plan to sell it cause we would end up getting only 65-70k for a car that has not even done 15k kms in 10 years of its life.

Coming to the point. My grandfather is 80 and I wish to install a power steering that can make his life easier while parking. I am ok with an install that is from any local mechanic in Mumbai as well. Just need your guidance as to where and at what cost can I get this installed. He is travelling in a couple of days and wish to get it fitted before he returns.

I saw this thread and went when I saw the price tag of 30k for the install from Maruti. I donot want to spend such a huge amount on a car whose value is just a lil over double that price. help with places/ locations/ threads/ anything.

Thanks in advance

Re: Installation of Power steering?

The best thing in your case for the five speed which is really a delight to drive btw is to pick up a used alto P.S system and retrofit it in to the 800.Make sure the motor is working as its a motor assisted n not hydraulic.

In mumbai u should be able to get this for a quite a fair price and frankly this sytems dont fail unless really abused or just plain bad luck,hence check the motor,Be aware that i have seen wagonr r p.s failing in as low as 3yrs but am yet to see an alto atleast till date.

I think any good mechanic who has worked for quite a time on maruti cars should be able to retrofit this.

Good luck and its a nice gesture for your grandfather.
