hey bhpians,

Just got myself a Pre Worshipped Linea MJD Emotion Pack.
Now,that fiat has officially communicated on the prices for upgrade kit.
I am wondering,if its worth it,or do i really need it?
In 2 weeks of ownership i have managed to scrape her thrice-(I was only testing GC),other than that my usage will be on good roads.
So i was just wondering if this upgrade will be worthy enough for me.
Another factor that makes me feel good,is that i will have new parts on the car,i dont want to lose on handling and stability.

So how many of us are actually going for this upgrade?

Even though i'm not the primary user of our Linea, We have decided to go for it and booked for the same. will let you all know the after effects once the upgrade is done.

Please keep us updated.
Has the dealer provided any time frame as to when the kits will arrive.
Also make sure to click before and after pics for any visible changes.

I am not going to upgrade. I don't have any problem with the current GC of my punto even on some monsoon potholes and cost is the other reason not to.

Keen to understand what this kit comprises of. Does anyone know?

Is it a minor addition like a rubber stopper (like the Civic aftermarket mod) or is it serious stuff and tested exhaustively to last the life of the car. Also, why the boilerplate on miscellaneous costs and why should it vary from individual car to car? Sounds fishy to me!

The linea comes factory fitted with a sturdy engine guard plate anyway. I am happy with 170mm GC on the T-Jet+, so won't be going for this GC upgrade. I had a look at the new linea with 185mm GC and to me, the sedan looks really awkward and funny with such a high ground clearance and stance.

If it's already 170mm, then what additional height increment they're suggesting?

The T-Jet+ came with 170mm, This would be more useful for the MJD Linea which came only with 161 mm of GC

Yesterday, I had a chat with the SA when my Linea reported to Concorde Motors, Mysore Road, Bangalore, in connection with repairing a faulty rear window winder switch. He was well aware of the discussions on GC upgrade in FB. He informed me that while they are getting a lot of serious enquiries from the customers, they are yet to receive the details and instructions from FIAT India. He recommended the GC upgrade.

But, my Linea will not have this GC upgrade as the cost involved is well beyond my budget. My Linea's underbelly was battered more than 50 times during her Leh expedition. But, all the impacts were swallowed by her sturdy engine guard plate. So, I have decided to stay away from this GC upgrade and save Rs 12 k [including labour charges].:)

As of now, I will be staying away from the CG upgrade because the current CG is ok for my driving. If I have to replace one shock or more for any damage in future, I may choose to upgrade the whole suspension with the new one.

What Teky says is true. It makes more sense for the Fire/Multijet series of Lineas than T-Jets. The SA was recommending to upgrade to 185mm, which takes it to SUV category. :Shockked: That much is not really needed, plus it makes it look awkward, like a sedan on high heels. Besides, I'm not sure how much this height increase would affect the car's handling with the higher centre of gravity

Just out of curiosity, what is the cost of the engine guard plate if we were to replace it? lol: I remember reading in your ownership thread that after the Leh trip, you just got the engine plate dents hammered in and fitted back.

I though of changing it but after discussing with my wife, we are not often encountered GC issue and again have some doubts in new Setup durability and might mess the whole setup in A.S.S and most important is, it will reduce the Linea stance as the GC is increased with the current 15 inch alloys might not be pleasing to eyes.
So after doing some research, I may upgrade it.

I am not going to upgrade for the time being. Will wait and watch the impact on body roll and stability at high speeds.

Anyways, i don't have any problem with my current T-Jet's 170mm GC.

For Rs 12 k, you can have dozens of engine guard plates and stockpile them!:D

Yes. The engine guard plate got bent, which was flattened and refitted back, not once, but twice, one each at Amritsar and Srinagar.:thumbs up

Hi ,
I just got a new engine guard for my Linea MJD as it got badly damaged when I went over a huge stone.
To my surprise, the cost of new Engine guard is just Rs 1500. Thats it !!! I consider that to be extremely affordable considering the strength and weight of the engine guard.
