Our Hyundai Getz Prime GVS CRDi which was bought in July 2009 is still running on the OEM battery that came with the car and after more than 5 years, it is problem free even today and the car starts in the first attempt. I think its exide.
A friend came to me with a very basic car query: car battery specification. I boasted that you'll find the answer on Team BHP and we ran searches to no avail and therefore this thread.
Background: His i20 OEM Exide 45Ah was paralyzed last weekend after 4 years and 65000 kms on the ODO. However, bigger questions were: Which replacement battery? what specification? and importantly at what price? The sheer range of batteries out there is overwhelming!
He called up many battery shops for replacement costs and models. He called on Tata Green batteries at 1800-something - to his amusement he was offered a weird advice of going for a low-power 35 Ah alternative!! Tata case closed here! He also found that the authorized service centers in Gurgaon had different batteries with price ranging from INR 6700 to 9000-something.
My queries to experts are:
a) Can a battery be replaced with a lower power rated battery - from 45Ah to 35Ah in this case?
b) Some on the forum advise replacing the battery with a higher rated battery: to what the benefit over the standard spec?
Look forward to your experience and insight!
In addition, it would be great if you could contribute battery specifications for the benefit for everyone. Please add Manufacturer name alphabetically to make for easy finding as the list grows. Something like a table which I wasn't able to draw in to the post.
Many thanks!
Car Make - Model - OEM Battery Specification
Chevrolet -
---------
Hyundai - i20 1.2 Petrol - 45Ah (L) (Positive Terminal is Left)
---------
Maruti Suzuki -

There is no benefit to be derived from a higher rating battery. These are recommended in case a vehicle has been equipped with electrical accessories that draw a large current and used only if the OE alternator has enough output to charge the bigger battery.

Thanks Saket...
I went through the thread and the various links mentioned therein, however the second part of my query still remains unanswered. What benefits would i derive by using a higher spec over the standard spec.

Hello all, My Optra 1.8(P) got cranking issues after 6 years 10months. It's running on Amaron Go 55D23R
The problem now is that the battery isnt in production I believe and the Amaron website recommends Amaron Pro 90D23R for Chevy Optra petrol. I assume the website is recommending a higher Ah battery 90Ah. Is it advisable to go for it?
Current Situation:
Alternator 12V - 95A
Amaron Go 12V - 55Ah (Recommended Ah)
Turns out i ended up buying a slightly large battery of Amaron Go 95D26R
Old on was 110mins/500A while new one is 120min/560A. More numbers means more i think. I wish the manufacturers use a standard battery specs and sizes. Way too much to compare when a particular model is extinct.
After exactly 36 months since I replaced my OEM battery with Amaron FLO on my Santro Xing gave up and it refuses to crank now.
Till last night it was cranking but with lots of pain, I even got it checked 3 days back and battery shop guy told me one of the cell is loosing power and this would get you stuck somewhere so replace it ASAP.
Today morning it gave up entirely and now car is left outside the house waiting for friends to come and push/jump start it.
So Do you guys think after the OEM battery, 3 Years is OK Life for AMARON FLO.
few details about usage of car electricals are
1). ICE with 2ch. AMP and a Sub-woofer
2). Lots of custom L.E.D. Stuff inside cabin
3). 1 DRL
4). Less Night RUNS
The battery in question (AMARON FLO,35Ah) was covered with 24 month Re-placement and 24 month Pro-Rata Adjustment so does anyone has details what kind discount are we looking at ??
Dealer has quoted Rs.3350/- for same battery after trade-in of OLD (pro-rate to be worked out when I would go with bill)

try the Exide Matrix. i got my Exide Freedom changed (after 7.5yrs) and upgraded to Exide Matrix. no issues :thumbs up |
Even I had to replace my Exide Freedom after close to 6 years of ownership last year. Changed it as my wife was pregnant at that time and did not want to take a chance with old battery. Have now changed to Exide Matrix (Sealed battery) of the same specification. No issues until now. I see a lot of Hyundai's with OEM Exide lasting more than 5 years. Not sure how valid is this observation
Guys, please suggest battery for a Hyundai i10.
The OE battery has crossed the 6 year mark, and is showing signs of dying.
Shortlist -
Amaron ( as usual)
-vs-
Exide - (which one) ?
Are Exide batteries designed to conk off after the warranty expires ?
My OEM Exide battery lasted 3 years and 2 months on my Punto diesel. I changed it again to a 50Ah exide ( 18 months warranty) that's been in use for around 2 years and 3 months. It's now showing signs of weakening with Airbag failure messages and slow cranking. I don't have any extra electricals , sometimes use the battery port to charge my mobile. So I did expect the battery to last longer.
Any recommendations on a battery that will last longer ? Should I go for amaron this time ?
I have been using Amaron batteries for my M800 for about 10 years (three batteries) and Dzire for over 5 years (second battery). The average life is a little over 3 years after that the batteries require charging. I am OK with this brand, as it is not overly expensive.

Do check the Amaron this time. I am sure you won't be disappointed.
I am also getting Amaron battery in my Karizma R in place of Exide (Factory fit was Amco).
Hello Gurus, need your help here. My Accent Executive's (Petrol) battery is dead, it was showing signs of weakness and fortunately it died when parked at home, so luckily not stranded anywhere.
Now, while looking for replacements - checked online and also Hyundai site. My first place to go was Hyundai and called them to know the prices. Their quote was Rs.6200/- + taxes + Installation Charges (irrespective of buy back of old battery) and I have to take the car there. Secondly I checked with
http://www.carbatteryexpert.com, these guys seems to be genuine (at least in appearance). They quoted for Exide Matrix FMT0-MT 45L Rs.6000/- (with old battery) inclusive of taxes, delivery and installation at my place. This is my current choice and before I decide, I need your advise.
- Do anyone have any experience buying from these guys (http://www.carbatteryexpert.com) at Chennai?
- If I am buying from these guys, is there something I should check specifically to ensure the ingenuity of the product and to check if it is unused and brand new? How do I do that?
- Is this model (Exide Matrix FMT0-MT 45L) the right one? I checked my current battery it is exide itself, but could not see the specifications or model number. Kindly guide me how to get these information.
Thanks in advance for your valuable advice.

Hi,
My brother experienced a similar problem with his Accent (Petrol). After almost 5 years the battery gave way. Surprisingly, the car came with an SF Sonic battery fitted. So when we contacted our reliable mechanic – he suggested we replace it with a brand new SF Sonic Battery. He recommend an SF Sonic Flash Start 60Ah. The battery was priced at about Rs. 6000. The best part, we got a waiver of about Rs. 850 when we returned the old battery. For the last one year or so, it has been working perfectly, starting at the first crank in spite of the insistent rains in Kerala.
You could possibly call helpline listed on the battery - 1800 102 6060. Hope it helps.
I changed my battery with exide matrix. I ordered via
http://www.carbatteryexpert.com. They were decent guys to interact with. I went to a local shop and inquired, he quoted Rs.7329/- for the battery and Rs.900/- buy back for the old one, so essentially it will cost me Rs.6429/-. After a lot of persuasion, he agreed to come and replace the battery at my home, which was just a KM away from his shop and I am sure he would have demanded atleast Rs.100 for that. I re-checked the site, they were quoting Rs.6800/- for the battery and Rs.800/- for the buy back. So it will cost Rs.6000/-, but had an offer running for Rs.150/- cash discount, so the net cost for me would be Rs.5850/- which included delivery and installation (the same day within 3-4 hours). There is an option to pay via card when they come to deliver, however, they charge 2.5% extra for the same. I opted the same and the end cost was Rs.5996/-.
I checked out the order online by 3PM and received a call from their dealer in Chennai by 3:20pm. He informed me he will reach between 6 & 6:30 and actually reached well within that time. A nice chap, did the swap of battery, took the old one, gave me the warranty card, put the dealer's seal, swiped the card, gave me the invoice and went back. In invoice the amount mentioned was Price = Rs.7300/- and old battery buy back price = Rs.1450/- and net pay =Rs.5850/-.
A pretty good deal and a pretty good guy who came and did it for me. While he was there at my home, he had another battery as well and that was for a Skoda.
Exide is among best and reliable. It is closely followed by Amron. I have been an Exide user since 13 years and Amron user for 4 years.
Exide service is surely lagging and in an unfortunate case of warranty replacement, be prepared for at least a week of wait.
