Re: Shom's Padmini S1 Restoration

The paint finish looks promising, do post some more outdoor pics of the car. BTW it will be a nightmare to maintain that Slick gloss finish, I hope you know that

PS: I would like to know how much it costs to book a paint booth, also for what duration did you booked it.

Kudos to your choice of color! and it seems to be coming up really well. The paintbooth looks familiar, do you mind sharing the details?

The weather here is horrible, so i rented out a paint booth.
I chose Estoril blue Crystal, OEM for Audi.
Paint Quality was Dupont Centari 600
Clear Coat was Mipa high solids clear.
Was painted in a sealed paint booth and baked at 65 degrees centigrade for 3 hours.
Here are the pictures.

Re: Shom's Padmini S1 Restoration

If anybody can hook me up with a chrome plating guy in Mumbai i would be eternally grateful. The bumpers are horrible.

Also, where can i get the 'thali' for the wheel?

I will give the person who tell me about the chrome plating guy 3 green kittens :P

Why don't you look for full white plastic wheel covers that many Padminis came as OEM fittings? IMO, they look very nice.

Why don't you try to source this design "thali" Looks much better than the conical one.
Though for obvious reasons you won't find new ones now.

BTW we need more inside out pics of your S1.

Nice suggestion, more so because those full ones came as OEM on S1.

Sorry for the late reply, here's a pic of my S1 boasting the said wheel caps.
FYI they are made by Sunax who were OEM for this part.

Re: Shom's Padmini S1 Restoration

So bumping up this thread after quite a while.
I came back from London 3 days or so ago.
I had left mt S1 with a friend of mine, as there was no one at home to drive 2 cars.
Some issues that need to be taken care of now:
  1. Complete body polishing as there is some sort of overspray on the entire car.
  2. New Alternator. Old alternator is not charging when idling. and maximum charging voltage at high RPM is around 13.5 Volts
  3. Completely coolant flush.
My car does not start in half a crank/self. How can i make this happen? I need to crank it a couple of times and pump the accelerator to get it to start. Any tips to make this happen?

Good work on the restoration! Estoril blue Crystal looks better than on an Audi!

Why don't you go for chrome alloy wheels to pimp it up! (If it's in your budget of course!)

Re: Shom's Padmini S1 Restoration

So it has been almost a year since the restoration. I came back to india a few weeks ago and changed many things and completed the restoration.
Got new bumbpers from chor baazar, stainless steel siri patra cover, gauges installed, new ignition system, ICE install, Premier padmini monogrammes polishing the car.
Things still left to complete:
Get rid off the horrid front grille.

Does anyone know where i can get a vacuum gauge that i can connect to the intake manifold so that i can tune the carb better.
Here are some new pictures...
feedback as always is welcome.

Re: Shom's Padmini S1 Restoration

Those plastic wheelcaps that came later were a pain.

One day after my wedding Dec 26, 1996 I set off with my wife in the Premier Padmini to meet her parents where they were staying in a hotel in Patna.

The car had four brand new MRF Legend tyres. But punctures come often in Patna. There were no tubeless tyres then for fiats.

The puncture shop guy tries to take it off but it snapped. One had snapped three earlier as well. The Thalis are much better you can loose them on the potholes although.

Re: Shom's Padmini S1 Restoration

Yesterday i went to Sion Koliwada and picked up a used starter motor.
I then swapped out the bendix drive and the aluminium field coil for a copper one.
I also got 2 original tinted PAL glasses for 200 bucks

Re: Shom's Padmini S1 Restoration

Seems like you got a CNG kit for the car. We had a 1984 PP, Deluxe BE, if i remember correctly. Loved the sound of the exhaust. Even loved the steering shift. Sadly we had to scrap it in 2003.
