Mahindra Scorpio: Engine History

When the Scorpio was launched way back in 2001-2002 it was introduced with an M2Di engine.

My guess is it was a derivative of a Mahindra DI engine, with a modified head and the power output was greater than the DI s 63 to 68 BHP.

What was the bhp of the first generation scorpio ?

Post this what is the derivation of the 110 bhp CRD e engine which was on the Scorpio till 2007.

Was this also an off shoot from the DI engine with a common rail, intercooler turbo and different fuel injector developed ? This engine still comes in the Thar and is the top of the line Bolero CRD e equipped with this.

FInally was the MHawk engine an entirely new development by Mahindra or this too was derived from the existing CRDe engine with additions, modifications.

Would love to research this topic as I could not find much information on this.

re: Mahindra Scorpio: Engine History

AFAIK,it was first launched with the Non Crde, 2.6L Turbocharged engine that pumped out 109 horses. Then came the chain driven version of the same followed by 2.6 Crde with 115bhp.M2DI came in much later with 70 bhp.

re: Mahindra Scorpio: Engine History

The mHawk engine was designed in house by M&M but was developed in collaboration with AVL, Austria. And this is the best thing that could happen to the Scorpio and now the XUV.

Why doesn't MM sue TMC for their 2.2?

Hey BT,
Thanks for this thread.
Cross posting from Spike's post, "Scorpio NEF 2.5 L Euro-IV - Chain drive- CRDe- with ECU- with EGR and EGR cooler"
So, is this the engine in Thar CRDe now? Is it also known as the mEagle engine?
Cheers,
Deepak

Yes Deepak, this is the same engine with minor tweakings. The mEagle engine is different, it has its genes borrowed from the famous tractor engines, rather the current Bolero MDI engines. Lot of changes had been done to make it suitable for high power application. I do not know if it is still being produced.

Someone correct me,but AFAIK
Scorpio always had a 2.6L engine, and Thar's engine may be a derivative of its family but its a 2.5L(2498cc).

MM not suing TM for 2.2 is indicative of the fact that TM has not infringed MM's design rights. The two engines are different and the identical cubic capacity is merely incidental.
