While surfing on-line for any data or matter on OBD-II, this is what I stumbled upon.

The following images give the Pin-out guide used by different manufacturers.

This the 16-pin that I am referring to where each pin has different function programmed:

Thanks again.
What happened to the project? Has it been posted elsewhere?

Lol back then we were ballistic in starting it out but later the whole thing got shelved. I was interested in the project because it was related to automobiles but I got a job that took me much closer to my passion and I got to work on better stuff like safety systems and collision avoidance. So that project went to the shelf I will do it if I get some time and manpower. Why this question?

Was doing some research for installing an OBD scanner in my Aspire, which took me to Anurag's thread where your posts caught my eye. Sounded interesting.
What was the idea anyway? Maybe someone else can try it out.

My idea was to develop an Android application that would keep a track on the driving habits and give out reports based on a few algorithms to guage how efficient the driving was and any errors with the car or the driving. Though there are plenty of diagnostic apps available, none of this catered to an end user who was a noob in this area. So we wanted to target that kind of an audience. I then realised that it took a lot of manpower to fine tune stuff and also I had no clue about application development in Android. Just when I started my hands on a basic app, life took me elsewhere

Hi anurag,
You seem to be an expert on OBDs. I'm thinking of buying one for my Ford Figo Aspire, but some listings on ebay specifically mention that they are not for Ford cars. Do you know anything about that?

It works with Ford all cars after 2007 without issues, just buy Big Size ELM327 or VGate ELM327, other have fitting issues nothing else.

If I buy the obd device plus 1 bluetooth device for calling and music, would both of them work simultaneously with my Android phone?

That depends on your phone bluetooth version. Newer version support multi connections, connect to OBD and bluetooth hands free. However AFAIK, those multiconnections should be of diff type, like one is serial data and other is async audio

Do try it, like, connect to music/audio device and transfer a file to another mobile/laptop.

1) Bluetooth OBD works in my aspire
2) I can connect to both the SYNC system and the OBD dongle together on my LG G2 on Android 5.0

Good to know. I have the S4 MINI and the specs are almost the same as yours.

Which obd device are you using? the software I assume is Torque. What are the readings that are available from the Aspire?

Re: On Board Diagnostics (OBD) for Dummies

It's a generic ELM OBD adapter. I have a diesel, which has different sensors than the petrol engine that you have.

Re: On Board Diagnostics (OBD) for Dummies

These are 2 options that I found

1) ebay listing: Rs.499
Latest Super Mini Elm 327v 2.1 Bluetooth EOBD2 CAN-BUS OBD2 Car Reader Scanner
2015 Latest v2.1 Bluetooth with best features
On Board Diagnostics (OBD) for Dummies-_12.jpg

Very compact and would be hidden away in my Aspire

2) amazon listing: Rs.690 (same is available on ebay for Rs.735)
Vgate ELM327 V2.1 Bluetooth Mini Small Interface OBD2 Scanner Adapter Diagnostic Tool Works On Android/Symbian/Windows
On Board Diagnostics (OBD) for Dummies-51ltottu4l._sl1000_-1.jpg

Bigger. Would be visible on the driver side, but might not interfere with the foot.

I remember reading on the insurance thread that in the US, a few insurance firms did provide custom insurance quotes based on driving habits. I am assuming that this was tracked using an OBD reader which would send data using a sim.

Your project sounds similar and would actually be a good product to sell to a zoomcar or other car rentals where they can track driver driving style and based on that define the deposit and maybe even rental pricing. Being a data guy I can only imagine the amount of data this could generate and how it can be used.

Re: On Board Diagnostics (OBD) for Dummies

Hi,

I need an urgent information. For all of BS4 compliant TATA and ALeyland trucks, what are the OBD2 port pinout configurations? What are the manufacturer specific PID's which can be retrieved?

Many thanks in advance
