re: Volvo S60 instrument console failed. Repair or replace? Volvo to replace under Goodwill!

Some new information has come to light WRT the Volvo DIM speaker failure.
In the sweedespeed forum someone had given me the below info.
Looks like I am not the only one with a bad speaker in DIM.
Now I am beginning to see a reason behind Volvo service not responding to my mails regarding the issue. They just keep quiet when I raise this issue. Otherwise they have no problems when I ask about accessories etc.

I hope you can get it repaired. If you cant and it needs swapping have a look at this thread

http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/for...c.php?p=346285

Appears these DIMs are not all interchangeable and even if they do work there might be a problem with the mileage.
On the upside, I also read it is a 10 minute job to pop the DIM out. So I would say pop it out, open it up carefully and who knows. If you can see the speaker you can check the speaker and you can replace the speaker if need be.
Good luck

I am am member of that forum & have gone through that earlier.
It will be very rare that there is an S60 DIM available here in India.
Since the car is imported fully built, I guess the S/N might match the ones available in Europe etc. if required.
This week the jobs in hand are the tyres replacement, paint polishing etc.
Checking the speaker is the next step and will be done, maybe in a week or so.
On the various forums, the results have been mixed after changing the DIM, there is a thread somewhere in US someone is trying to swap the analogue cluster with the TFT type 2014 DIM.
http://forums.swedespeed.com/showthr...r-DIM-Retrofit
I am keeping a track of that too. Looks like that needs extensive work on the CAN.

This is the culprit, I believe.
No information on the speaker regarding the impedance, wattage etc.
If anyone in this forum is familiar with the speaker as shown in the picture, please do let me know the specifications such as the impedance, wattage etc.
Thanks in advance.

Update:
The micro speaker was removed from the card.
Could not find a replacement in my place.
Got one of the speaker re-winding specialist to re-wind the coil.
The diaphragm is special and was not available & was replaced by a normal one.
Now the sound is ok, but the volume is low.
Anyone who knows where I can get a micro speaker of 100 ohms and 0.5 W power, please advise.
At least the sound is back, now the search is for a replacement.

Can't you get just this speaker from abroad?

Old cellphone speakers?

I am looking at the various options as to how I can get the speaker.

The cell phone speakers are about 0.1W I believe, and I am looking for at least 0.5W.
Have seen a few options on the net, but since I am going to be at Singapore next month, I am procrastinating.

At least the problem is solved, some people say now the alarms sound better since the volume is low.
Thanks to the paper diaphragm instead of the original Mylar one.

Latest update:
Volvo has informed me today after a detailed discussion on their end, they have decided to replace the DIM free of cost. I had taken it up with the management of Volvo Cars India.
This is befitting the standard that I wish to see from a responsible manufacturer.

Great! And there I was thinking Chinese companies honour warranties, let alone goodwill ones, only as long as their products have not left their premises!

I think Volvo is as much Chinese as JLR is Indian.

Re: Volvo S60 instrument console failed. Repair or replace? Volvo to replace under Goodwil

Had the DIM renewed yesterday at Kochi Volvo ASS.
I had to go to Kochi for some work and hence took the opportunity.
Kochi Volvo had informed me about two weeks ago that the DIM had arrived, but i was out of station and hence the delay.
Also, had to replace the brake pads as they were found to be close to limit during last service.
Like I mentioned in the earlier post, Volvo replaced the DIM at their expense.
Very pleased with the outcome.
Checked and can confirm all alarms are loud and clear.
They have transferred the odometer readings and all user defined settings onto the new DIM and hence there is no difference practically except the loud alarm sound.
