Re: Ford India recalls 20,752 units of EcoSport

Got my Ecosports 1.5 Titanium (O) complete the airbag related FSA completed today at Metro Ford, St. Marks Road Bangalore. I neither received a call nor received a letter. I called them up on Saturday. They told me to bring the car on Monday. I was told that no appointment is required for this FSA.

I dropped the car today morning and received it back evening.

Re: Ford India recalls 20,752 units of EcoSport

Here's the email I received on 29-Dec for my Titanium (O) EcoBoost manufactured in Aug 2013 - it covers both FSAs. I'm yet to schedule an appointment for this.

Re: Ford India recalls 20,752 units of EcoSport

On 22-Jan, I went to Lathangi Ford, Bangalore to get both FSAs addressed.

The SA at Lathangi told me that they've not received a specific tool from Chennai to remove the fuel hose, so the FSA "S1403 FUEL TUBE AND VAPOUR TUBE REPLACEMENT" would have to wait for a few weeks, and they'll call me back. Given that this is a preventative action for long-term rusting, I'm ok to wait, thought I'd have preferred that I was informed about this when I made the appointment the previous day.

The work for FSA "S1411 RCM CONNECTOR WIRING" turned out to be far quicker than the 2 hours that were originally stated, it took only about 30 minutes (for the rewiring, and OBD-II diagnostics of the RCM). Speaking to the service technician, he said all Ford technicians in Bangalore were trained in a Metro Ford facility in Bangalore by someone who took the training from Chennai. He also mentioned that he's gotten used to the work which is why its so quick.

Things that I learnt during this process:
  • RCM stands for Restraint Control Module, and covers the airbags, and seatbelt pre-tensioners
  • The RCM sits under the cell-phone holder area between the front-seats
  • There's a lot of empty space around the gear lever, beneath the console. I wonder why manufacturers don't offer extra cubby-holes to utilize this space

I also managed to snag some pictures of the rewiring instructions:

You can see that the pin-out changes are either swapping or mirroring the positions, which might indicate how the problem might have originated in the first place.

Ford to recall 48,700 EcoSport SUVs in India

Ford Motor Co (F.N) has issued a voluntary recall of 48,700 EcoSport sport-utility vehicles (SUVs) in India to fix faulty fuel and brake lines and rear folding seats, the company's local unit said in a statement on Friday.

Ford India Private Ltd will recall 48,000 EcoSport diesel vehicles, made between April 2013 and June 2014, to install a new bundle clip on the fuel and brake lines, it said in the statement.

It plans to recall another 700 EcoSport vehicles made between January and February 2016 and fitted with a 60/40 rear folding seat.

"On certain vehicles, the 40 percent rear seat backrest might have been assembled with bolts that do not meet Ford's material specification, potentially causing the bolts to break," the company said.
