An idiot in a Lancer rear rammed my Vtec. Centre bumper section got pushed in . Anyone knows whether:

1: I can push the section out and it will be as good as new

2: If I need to replace the centre bumper section - how much will it cost for replacement, painting and fitting

Lancer had a dented lip - did not look bad but it will be an expensive 6k job to repaint whole section

Hey Ajmat,

sorry to hear that.
Im not sure, but I dont think you will be able to push the bumper out due to the modern construction of the bumpers. However how big is the dent? Cld you post pics?

hmm buddy good to knowu r safe... had a similar one only thing was the guy forgot i was there and this was a truck.

anyways u gotta see how bad the damage is ..form u r info i conclude that the bumper just caved inside. gues that can be pulled out and also u gotta see if ur energy absorbers r in ok state. else u need to replace that. but in htis case it is ver unlikely.
a bumper replacement wont cost u more than rs 10,000 at rhe max. thats includes painting. i recommend u try to fix u r exisiting one and paint it. it would save u time and money i suppose. but if u r onto details pls replace ur bumper.
peace out!

Hey Ajmat,

Sorry to hear about a fellow team-BHP Vtec getting injured. I am sure you are aware of this, but our Hondas bumper actually consists of three parts...one main center and two side partitions. The reasoning behind this is that, if you get one part damaged...unlike say the Lancer you shouldnt have to change the entire bumper.

That said, it might just depend on how deep the injury is. Why not take it to atleast three competent body shops and see if anyone of them is willing to repair the existing bumper. If not, I suggest claiming the insurance and paying that little bit extra to get it repainted at the authorised dealership. Their paint matching is awesome, but wait...yours is black, correct?

Hope your baby heals back to good health soon.

Got 60% no claims so will be paying out of my pocket. The front bumper of my neighbours Baleno got pushed in by a Qualis. He went to a body shop who pushed it out but it looks like an unironed shirt. Am more inclined to go to the dealer as only the centre portion is damaged. A auto hit me beind previously leaving a tiny crease earlier so am not optimistic about pushing it out. Great bumper design - none the less.

BTW if I claim on my insurance, I would have to pay for 70% of cost as it is plastic + depreciation etc

Nice, seems like you have never had to claim previously on your Vtec. How old is it?

Car is coming up to two years old. Rolled over the no claims from my Zen - that alone knocked 15 grand from the Vtec price.

Just back from the dealer - centre bumper replacement = Rs 4000 - I can live with this !!!! He went on about a small crease on the inside of the boot lid- I shut him up saying that I want to preseve my no claims and that I can live with the crease (so small - almost hairline)

Thanks to all of you for your support / concern and thank god it was not a Merc !!!!!!

15 grands! Thats a really good incentive for rolling over the no-claim bonus from a Zen. How exactly do the calculations work in your state? And did you have to sell the Zen and then transfer the insurance to get the discount on the new policy? I really want to know about this since I have not claimed anything in 8 years of owning the Jeep.

Yes, you should be glad it was not a Merc. Just the rear bumper of a C with painting comes to apprx 45 grand. But then, an Ikon rear-ended my Jeep near the Siddhivinayak temple very recently. I stopped at the red light and had atleast 6 car lengths between me and him, and I see this well-modded Ikon coming really fast toward my rear end...I knew it was going to be a close one and wham!!! When I got off my Jeep to inspect the damage, there was not so much as even paint chipped off the rear stair but the Ikons entire bumper assembly had broken and fallen off the road. His grille was gone and there was coolant all over the road (broken radiator?). Dippy and Revvmaster have seen my Jeep after that and there really is NO DAMAGE at all. Not a dent, not a scratch, not even missing paint.

I thought to myself "Thank God it wasnt the Vtec".

The rear of my Vtec has been hit by an auto and a scooter - some small scratches. Looks like an epidemic - there was one Vtec and a 1.5 in for similar estimates.

I sold the Zen, policy was more than 6 months over so I could not get a rebate - got a no claims certificate- I recall having to show the delivery note (anyone can make that up!!!). Was told to surrendar the certificate - the next owner I think got the remainder of my cover- not sure of details - I told him to figure it out himself.

whats the condition like. try to get the paint job matching, thats the hard part. also tell them ot wear it down a bit after painting so it matches the sourrounding area. it should stand out!

My baby is back - as good as new. Had to replace two parts of the bumper- Was quoted Rs 3600 + Rs 1800 paint/ labour - bit steep. Bill came to Rs 6500 - argued about this - guy said - had to paint the remaining bumper - (which was not the case, as I later discovered) - anyway, he told me to pay what I wanted so I knocked the bill down to Rs 5900 considering that they adjusted my doors for free and had to drill holes in my bumper to refit the reverse sensors.

Good job but you need to tie them down on price - Bangalore needs one more Honda dealer to keep them in line. BTW asked about a pair of wiper blades - Rs 3000 a pair- ouch!! - am going to ask my friendly maruti dealer for the Baleno (same size) should be cheaper
