Re: Water Leakage in cars - Causes & solutions

I have a first gen Swift VXi which has largely been trouble free all these years. Couple of days back while cleaning the interiors I noticed the left rear footwell carpet fairly wet however upon close inspection, there was no apparent sign of water leakage at the door panel or through rubber beadings. The door and surrounding areas are completely dry and only the left rear carpet below mat is drenched. The front passenger footwell along with driver side front and rear is completely dry.

I do not have a covered parking for this car and its always parked in the open, sometimes under trees.

What would be the areas to check and diagnose this issue?

I contacted local Maruti service center and they recommend AC coil cleaning while also removing the complete dashboard in process which I feel could be an overkill at this stage. Could this be a case of AC evaporator drain being clogged?

If the AC's drain pipe is damaged or clogged, then the front passenger's foot-well area would become wet before the rear, because generally the drain pipe is located in the corner where dashboard meet the centre console(passenger side).

You can check this leakage by yourself. Let the AC run for 20-30 minutes on its minimum temperature and then check if the front foot-well carpet below the glove box is getting wet. Inspect thoroughly below the carpet too. If the carpet remains completely dry then the drain pipe is fine.

Re: Water Leakage in cars - Causes & solutions

I want to know what exactly is covered under extended warranty?

I had purchased the car in April, 2017. Recently i found water in the rear foot well (both side) and in the spare wheel area in the trunk. I gave the car for regular servicing and told the advisor to look as to where is the water coming from.

He called me today and told me that the plastic on all four doors needs to be changed and new sealant needs to be applied. The reason he gave is that rubber has become hard and that is causing the leakage and in the trunk also sealant needs to be applied. He quoted Rs. 4500 + tax for the job over and above Rs. 850 for detecting the leakage.

The Car is only 3.5 years old. I don't understand how only a 3.5 years old car have such issue. I had a SX4 for 10 years and never did such leakage happen.

What should i do? Should i go ahead with replacing the plastic and sealant?

Is this covered under extended warranty? The Digipad is also having some issues which has already been replaced once under warranty.

Experts please throw some light on this.

I'm also attaching a photo which will clearly show the water is really coming from the Taillight only.
After this update, i visited the service centre again. They kept the car for 4 days and this time, even their Senior Most Bodyshop Advisor was present. The car was attended by him. When I went to collect the car, he personally showed me the amount of sealant he has put behind the tail light and assured me it is taken care of.

I collected the car around 3-4 days back and today when I again went to check the leakage, there was still water just behind the tail light at the same place though the amount of water was comparatively very less.

Now even the service centre people are confused regarding the entry point of the water. To be honest, I do not think it’s their cup of tea.

Please suggest me someone in Navi Mumbai who can take of the issue at the earliest. I’m really not good at DIYs.

Thanks in advance

Copying from another thread as I believe it’s a good way to diagnose water leaks in any car. - https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...ml#post4907371 (Is it time to move on from brand Honda?)

Volkswagen Vento Boot Wet With Leaking Water

Couldn’t find a thread specifically for Volkswagen Vento so making one.
My 5 year old car’s boot has been leaking water. The boot carpet is wet. When I open the booth, the lock well is generally full of water from the car wash guy too.

What could be the issue? The beading looks fine to inspect.

I am resisting giving it too the ASS as they will probably make me buy a new car.

With high pressure wash sometimes the bottom rubber / plastic plugs may get damaged or dislodged leaving a healthy room for water entry. Please have a look.

Otherwise you should make a step by step cause analysis by duplicating the scenario.
- Rubber beading
- Check if the LH/RH side carpet trim is wet as well
- Rear shock absorber mounts (wheel well area)
- Tail lamp housing
- Reg plate mounting area (last suspect)

I did not understand what lock well is.

Remove the boot beading and check for any rust in the beading rail. If yes, you have a problem.

Remove the tail lights and clean the area of any leaves and dirt dried up in that area. The accumulation over the years does not allow the water to flow freely and it may start seeping into the boot

Re: Volkswagen Vento Boot Wet With Leaking Water

By Lock well I mean the recess in the open trunk which contains the lock hook.
There is an accumulation of leaves very often which has to be removed almost everyday. That may be a reason.
The beading looks fine.

Please attach some pictures if possible. It would help the members to diagnose the problem. Thanks.

Re: Water Leakage in cars - Causes & solutions

Can anyone please help me with this?
1. I see water dripping from the center of the firewall area on to the chassis(?) at the bottom. There is a small rubber like structure which I can feel with the hands when I reach that area. It has a hole at the top which I am not sure whether it's by design or by rat damage. If it's AC drain pipe then shouldn't it NOT drop on the structure below it?

2. I see this leakage when I top up the wiper washer fluid. This is mostly rat damage. My question was weather replacing this pipe require a lot of things to be removed or is it an easy fix?

Thanks!

Re: Water Leakage in cars - Causes & solutions

Quick question:

Part of the weather strip on my car's driver side door came off. This has resulted in a gap between the window glass and sill area. Can water enter from this area during rains? Sorry for the noob question. I'm worried as my car is parked in the open and it's raining here.

Yes, water will enter.
Make sure the drain holes in the bottom are not blocked, this should save you from bigger head ache later.

As a quick solution, you can use car cover till you get the replacement part.

AC drain pipe can be easily accessed from the passenger side footwell from inside of the car. If it is only the AC drain pipe leakage then it will be an easy fix.
