Thanks mate! They said it's like that and doesn't need fixing.

Re: Water Leakage in cars - Causes & solutions

Man! I regret parking my car in the open. But I am more worried about identifying the source of the leak. Got worried of sudden rank smell in the car this evening.

Early signs I missed
- Grimy/mist on the inside of the windshield for the past 1 week
- magnetic sun shades which got sandwiched between the door frame and weather seal possibly leaving some gap
Felt all floor carpets quickly and found some dampness in rear left footwell. Turns out that the area below front passenger seat in my Duster has a carpet completely soaked. I noticed minor patches of wetness in the past but it was nothing alarming. This time it was parked out in the rain for 2 days. It was leaning slightly to the left due to uneven ground.

Prime suspect

I am guessing, that the roof rail mount seals are the culprit. The Duster has roof plastic ridges running across the length of the roof on either sides covering up the mounting points. The slight left incline would have allowed the water from the roof to roll to the left side and accumulate a bit against the edge on this ridge before flowing off to the front/rear. Also allowing a slight amount seeping into the cabin. Didn’t check the roof liner for dampness though.

I was in haste to soak out the carpet using a microfibre cloth and just got back from soaking out about 1 mug of water.

Good thing is that the floor has ridges so the carpet is wet in only that quarter. Rest of the three quarters are completely dry.

What I plan to do with the tools I have at home:
- remove the front passenger seat.
- remove the door beadings on the left doors to free up the carpet
- remove the rear seat base to access the clips
- peel off the floor carpet on that quarter and invert it (hold it in place somehow)
- put a pedestal fan and leave it on for a day to dry out the carpet and insulation from below.
Hopefully this gets it dry enough.

Will still have to trace back to the source of the leak!!! Any suggestions on how this can be done?

Re: Water Leakage in cars - Causes & solutions

My 10+ yrs old Manza had a leak in the front passenger seat collecting mugs of water Water Leakage in cars - Causes & solutions-21ac7c45e6b4465fa255bda687d878f8.png.

TATA ASS explored the leak for a few days and finally concluded it is coming from the portion just above the front left wheelWater Leakage in cars - Causes & solutions-6dfad83d71ae45efaa7de660b65e40b3.png and the interior had rusted to the extent it needs replacement. The cost would be 35-40k.
They said I need to pay a percentage upfront since it was a bit costly. Had to ask why since never before have they asked such & anyway the car itself is in their possession. Also wanted them to confirm its genuine part coming from Tata and not from outside.
After a few days came back saying the part wasn't available and will call me back later when procured.
Methinks will not hear back from them. Hence looking for DIY suggestions from good folks here. Bangalore.

Did you get it fixed? I had the same problem with my dzire and I had taken it to a nearby mechanic. He just pulled and cleared the blocked air-conditioning drain hose (from underneath the carpet below the glove box).

However in about 3 month's time, it has started leaking again. This has never happened in my 9 years of driving this car. Am wondering if it could be anything else. Planning to take it to him again tomorrow.

Re: Water Leakage in cars - Causes & solutions

I just removed about a liter of water from my passenger side rear footwell!

I own a Swift 2013 model and its currently being parked in the open. I have been noticing water buildup in the car footwell for a week now and not able to find the exact problem. The water accumulates in the rear footwell upto under driver seat.

I am planning to take it to Maruti service. Anyone have any tips what should be checked and how to go about this?

Re: Water Leakage in cars - Causes & solutions

Hello All,

Yesterday we witnessed water accumulation on the rear passenger footwell in my sister’s Volkswagen Virtus GT TSI. It has ventilated seats and sunroof.

The service centre is claiming the issue is due to leakage from AC unit connected with Ventilated seats and promised us that it will be replaced under warranty. Anybody faced similar issue?

Regards,
TK

Hey! I just experienced water leakage (few drops) in my Virtus from the rear interior light panel. It rained today too so not sure if AC could be a reason for it too but very disappointed seeing water drops from the light panel. You may want to check if that's the issue here also. Please keep me updated w.r.t. solution. I will visit the service center soon.

They found the issue is due to water leakage from the ac outlet system which is near the dead pedal area. The connector was loose which led to the water leakage and now they have fixed it. We took the delivery today.

Thanks,
TK
