This would be the way to use the hand brake .. Most people I have seen, pull the hand brake ALL the way up - without leaving any play to be used when releasing the brake.

Especially valets & parking-lot attendants. They think it's an excuse for gymming.

Handbrake Issue

from you problem it seems the CABLE is the culprit.

in most of the cars: HAND BRAKE works on rear wheels, secondly on most models there is no seperate handbrake pads as many people have mentioned.

handbrake uses regular service brake shoes in rear to engage.

if it is sticky , try it:

start your car, release hand brake lever, push & relese service brake pedal 2-3 times, if it is the problem in service brakes it will probably get released , if it still sticks, hand brake cable needs replacemnet/lubrication

before arriving at bigger problem like service brake jamming always start chekcing from step by step , in you case the problem arised with use of hand brake, so try finding fualt first there.

get braking system cheked, cleaned at every 20k kms.
