You cannot start a car having completely dead battery with these portable powerbank Jumpstarters, but if the battery has even a small amount of juice, it works pretty well. I used to have a big Stanley Jumpstarter earlier it could have started even a dead battery. I have a similar Jumpstarter which I picked up in US 2 years back, still works flawlessly for regular use.

With 3 cars in the garage, you might as well get your folks a trickle charger. Will give you another year, maybe two more years out of those batteries.

Re: Maruti launches a compact jump starter for cars

Apart from people living in extreme conditions or not using their cars regularly, how many times people use jumpstart? I have used it once 15 years back when we left our headlight on accidentally on our wagon R. Called up Maruti on road service and we were back on the road in less than 45 min.

This seems to be a specialised product needed for a minuscule number of car users.

I am using Anker Jump Starter Pro 800A bought from Amazon and it worked well on my Mahindra Jeep. I disconnected the battery cable and connected directly to the jump-starter and it worked very well.

Here the video of that.

Re: Maruti launches a compact jump starter for cars

While this (or for that matter any portable charger) is useful while traveling - it's difficult to squeeze out more than 2-3 cranks on 1 charge. It's more practical to buy one of those big ones that can kept plugged in for trickle charging at home and taken along while going out on a road trip.

I know of quite a few apartment societies who have a regular battery, a trickle charger and jump start cables at the security kiosk. Useful for people within without having to invest in personal starter (since this comes out society money) and is also useful for non-resident motorists in emergency.

I believe some companies have started doing something similar where there is a huge employee base driving in to work.

Re: Maruti launches a compact jump starter for cars

I have this Energizer one. Bought it when I was in UK as the winters are notorious to batteries. You will never know when your battery stops and RSA could be hours out because of snow, road block or helping other vehicles. I always used to connect its charger to the boot power source where it remain completely charged.

In India, it remain in my car in boot, but never looses charge even after 6 months.

It was rated to start diesel cars upto engine capacity of 2500cc. The peace of mind one offers is unparalleled when you are stuck. I carry this, a medical kit, 1.5 liter water, puncture repair kit, electric pump and a winding torch, pen etc. all the time in my car. This is apart from the RSA I have subscribed to. Getting stranded is terrible, especially when you are in some remote area with less traffic and have no cellphone reception. Of course you cant be prepared for all eventualities, but you can be prepared for at least some that has a higher probability of occurring.

Re: Maruti launches a compact jump starter for cars

So the temporary fix would cost more than the permanent solution? No thanks!

I would rather call the roadside assistance and buy a new battery with warranty at a lesser price off of them. Or if such an option isn't available, I would simply ask the roadside assistance guys to jump start the car and then take it straight to a battery dealer to get a new one installed.

I guess you don't have kids who leave the cabin lights on, or teenage drivers who are careless about cabin lights and vanity lights. Batteries have enough juice to start a car once or twice, when such incidents happen, they are dead. Sure, you could jumpstart from another car, or ask someone. Thats a hassle. Also, one would feel differently if one lived in a very cold place. Where one would freeze in minutes if one cant start their car. Are we spoilt living in glorious Indian tropical weather?

Things like puncture kit, air pump, seat belt cutter, emergency hammer, fire extinguisher, jump starter, snow chains are all things that I carry, but would be very happy not to ever use.

I use the air pump all the time, as I drive an EV that never sees the service station. I use the jump starter when kids leave the cabin lights on and kill the battery. Or when the battery surprises me at a mountain town, or a ski lodge. I am the kind of person who thinks " 5 minutes early, is on time", I do not want to be late ever because of a dead battery. The other things on my list are like insurance.

You are right for most occurrences. However, sometimes RSA can be miles away and takes time. This is very handy in those situations.

This is the one that I have been using. It serves multiple purpose and is very useful. It can crank upto 8L engine capacity and works as charger, flashlight etc as well.

Seems Maruti has pushed these to all dealers. Discounts like 10-15% are very common.

Does this even work on Hyundai Eon Dlite+ petrol version. I am having battery issues probably for my brand new car which hasn't yet finished 12757 kms in last 5 years!

Yes, can easily work on your car, as it can even start a big SUV also.
