It is entirely legal to change the Engine with a different number. It has to be informed to the RTO within fourteen days from the time of delivery after repair(effectively the vehicle can be used fourteen days max before the change is effected in the RC). For the purpose of further ease the information should be shared with the insurer at the earliest and duly endorsed in the policy.

Hyundai has done a good job in accepting to replace the engine, it would be better if they give a loaner car for now and help the customer in the legal processes with rto and insurance and extend the maximum possible warranty for the car in question. Best solution is replace this with a new car, this car can anyways be used for testing or demo purpose or scrap it and cannibalise the parts by the company.

Re: Engine failure in brand new Hyundai i20

Would be good to know the outcome.

What support did the manufacturer provide?
How easy or difficult were the interactions?
How much time did it take?

Does anyone have any updates?
