hmmmmm

well, sam's van ran without an engine oil change, which is a far cry from not having any at all

and i am very confident. engines dont run without fuel.

i agreed on the deceleration bit- but that still dont mean engines run without fuel

When all the oil is used and forms a paste you can take it as there being no oil at all (in liquid form so that I am clear) .. And from what I can remember his engine didn't seize for two years (??) .. Unless your theory about IC engines says something that engines can run with oil turned into paste ..

And I am told that almost all cars that were manufactured after 2000 and are not single point fuel injection have DFCO embedded in their ECU's .. And I am talking about indian cars here ..

was that a joke?
i.e. if your light (and sensor) are working well.

Even I get suspicious when my vehicle runs for too long without indicating a need for fuel.

What are you guys discussing getting 15 kmpl from a frugal tuned for FE engined Japanese light weight car ?? Baleno you guys said right ? 18 kmpl easy - normal driving. and yeah a/c on , can't get those figures driving in the heat !!

I am trying to get 15 kmpl from a "POWERFUL TANK" and no one interested ? I managed a 13 kmpl on a city run with 100 % a/c. Am going to try and better that tomorrow.

Eh , this is also very important. How else do you think we save up money to make the car go faster ?

I am lost here... Let me get this straight... you are driving slow to get more mileage so that you can save up for more mods to go faster..
Am i missing something here???

n_c, I am guessing that this FE is as reported by your car's FE indicator. What are the FE figures (if any) that you got via the conventional full-tank-to-full-tank FE measuring method ?

Given that the full-tank-to-full-tank method of measuring FE itself can be quite error-prone inspite of taking utmost care, I am not even sure we can rely on the car's FE indicator to give a reading with only a reasonable margin of error.

How accurate or error-prone are these FE indicators anyway ? Anyone done a comparison between the readings indicated by them and the FE returned by the conventional method ?

Having had an airport run this afternoon, & feeling a lil' blue, I decided to try out McL's methods of saving gas outta sheer boredom.

I did as he said one should. The tach needle never went above 2k RPM (except 4 shifts at 2.5 when I was lost in thought), & I was goosing the gas all throughout the drive from Sahar down the WE Highway to the Bandra flyover. I never exceeded 60 km/h & the air-conditioning stayed on.

It felt wonderful. Was in the second from left lane.
The car made less noise. I made less noise.
The scenery seemed nicer. The grass was greener. The eyes were brighter. The taste was sweeter.

Then I switched from Floyd to Alanis.

My seat of the pants reading? Must've got about 48 km/litre.

Thank you McLaren.
