Optra Sunroof repair

While going through an underpass someone threw a stone on my car (Optra Royale) from the top. Some target practice. The stone shattered sunroof glass and the channel is also damaged.

Anyone has an idea how much the repair/replacement will cost? And approx what percentage will the insurance cover?

Isnt it covered under insurance.. The front and rear windscreens are so sunroof should also be covered. the total replacement should be around 30K

@Androdev
I escaped unhurt. Had the stone hit the car few milliseconds earlier, it would have gone through the wind shield and hit me. (The stone was approx. 2-2.5 kgs!).

I live in Bangalore and this happened on NICE road from Electronics City to Bannerghatta Road. It is not an underpass exactly. It is an overbridge.

@rishbravo
Thanks for the info.

Spoke to the Insurance guy and the body shop personnel. The sunroof is covered under insurance. I will need to shell out approx 5 to 7% of the cost. I am yet to take the car to the body shop for damage assessment. However, a replacement will cost approx. 60k! And they do not have it in stock. I will have to wait for a week or so.

I am grounded as I can not drive around in Monsoon with an "open view".

Sanjsah,

Good that you did not get injured. Sorry for the incident - must be damn painful. And 60K for a replacement ? What parts are they replacing ?

OT

What kind of deranged people are these ? I simply fail to understand what sadistic pleasure they get in damaging some one else's property.

IMO, get the car to good bodywork shop and ask for estimate....anyways since its covered under insurance.....it makes sense to put new Webasto sunroof (u have different options) instead of wasting 60k on OEM....

is the Top also damaged or just da sunroof and channel??

This happens not just in India folks. A similar incident with far worse results happened in Toronto.

And, is the expense same if you get it done from webasto itself?

sanjsah - thats a nasty incident.nice to know that you are safe.

a question to the experts here - would a laminated windshield help(if some rock were to hit it) in these kinda situations? speed of the car/weight of the rock will have any effect?
