Re: How to change wiper blades: A pictorial guide

Denatured alcohol (mixture of ethyl alcohol 90% + methyl alcohol 10%[denaturing])is available in plenty in India; goes by the name of 'Spirit'. It is used primarily as solvents and calorific material, blue in colour. It is available as Litre packs (or less) and also in bulk at most hardware shops dealing with paints, paint brushes, sand papers etc. Do carry an empty plastic bottle to the shop as they probably will have bulk packs as requirement for wiper blade cleaning will be minimal.

A word of caution, do not use denatured alcohol on rubber goods without trial as it can cause damage. Good quality rubber and Silicon is not affected by denatured alcohol.

Denatured Alcohol 70% solution is (was) used by doctors to disinfect (wipe clean) prior to giving injections. Now a days Isopropyl alcohol is used instead for this purpose. Most hooch tragedies are due to adulteration with denatured alcohol. That is why the blue colour. Denaturing is done to discourage it's use for recreational purposes.

You may use any spirit that contains ethyl alcohol - the working ingredient.
